Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the incumbent facilitates, instructs, and supervises participants in adaptive and inclusive youth recreation programs, classes, and activities. Additionally, the position provides training and guidance to staff on inclusive practices and supports overall program development, implementation, and oversight to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment for youth of all abilities.
Qualifications
· Must be at least 21 years of age.
· One year of relevant work experience, preferably experience working with individuals with disabilities. Previous experience assisting, supervising, planning, or leading activities for persons with disabilities and educational, volunteer, or employment in therapeutic recreation, counseling, or special education is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
· This position requires full onsite presence during all scheduled hours to support direct supervision and program delivery responsibilities.
· May require the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as needed for the job.
· Self-starter with strong communication and teamwork skills.
· Energetic, youth-friendly, and creative with a high level of enthusiasm for providing meaningful opportunities.
· Knowledge of the principles of full inclusion and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
· Understanding of behavioral modification techniques.
· Ability to assess environmental and participant conditions and make appropriate safety-related decisions.
· Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures for organizing supplies, equipment, and documentation.
· Competence in developing, coordinating, and promoting program events, and leading activities when required.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations both orally and in writing.
· Must possess a valid California driver’s license.

· Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Child Development, Therapeutic Recreation, or a related field; or equivalent experience in inclusive youth programming.
Essential Functions
· This position requires a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week
· Performs customer relations role, which may include interacting with patrons, participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information to solve problems.
· Maintains attendance and progress records for class participants.
· Assists with planning and implementing recreation and leisure activities for program participants with disabilities.
· Works as part of a team, attends training, orientation and/or staff meetings as needed.
· Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled and required. Supports Directors in implementation of meetings and trainings.
· Adheres to YMCA program standards regarding safety and risk management.
· Act as representative of the YMCA of the Foothills at all times. Conveys information on programs and schedules and refers members to other programs as appropriate. Articulate the mission, cause and rally cry of the YMCA of the Foothills.
· Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required in a timely manner.
· Ensure that program spaces are clean, organized and safe.
· Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, emergencies, dress guidelines and cleanliness standards.
· Provides training, coaching, and ongoing support to staff across youth programs on inclusive practices, behavioral strategies, and adaptive program delivery.
· Assists with the development and implementation of inclusive policies, procedures, and curriculum to support participation of youth with disabilities or additional needs.
· Observes and evaluates program activities to ensure accessibility, inclusion, and effectiveness, and makes recommendations for improvements.
· Serves as a resource and point of contact for staff and families regarding accommodations, supports, and strategies for participant success.
· Collaborates with program directors and leadership to identify training needs, develop training content, and schedule regular staff development sessions.

Required Certifications
REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
· CPR, First Aid, AED certifications
· Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date unless otherwise stated below.
· Must provide physician’s clearance and negative TB test results prior to employment.
· Clearance through fingerprinting, drug testing, criminal background check, and California Child Abuse Central Index (CACI).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Ability to plan, lead, and actively participate in physical and recreational activities in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Must be comfortable working in dynamic, fast-paced settings with elevated noise levels and frequent movement
• Must be able to lift and transport light to moderate equipment and assist individuals with mobility challenges, with or without reasonable accommodation.
