YMCA Camp Kenan is searching for a seasonal Summer Camp Director to lead 2026 overnight camp operations.

For over a century, Camp Kenan has been Western New York's favorite summer destination for overnight camp.  Camp Kenan provides kids with an opportunity to experience camp culture, develop essential life skills, and make friends for years to come. Situated on Lake Ontario in Niagara County, Camp Kenan boasts more than 50 acres of land filled with adventures and scenic beauty for every person to explore. Job Description

Responsible for the successful operation of the summer overnight camp program at YMCA Camp Kenan. Plans, organizes, and implements activities, provides direction, supervision, and support to overnight camp staff, and performs administrative tasks. This role is supported by the full-time YMCA Program Director who oversees Camp Kenan and Camp Weona overnight camps of YMCA Buffalo Niagara.

Qualifications
  • Must have at least 24 weeks of previous administrative or supervisory experience in camping or equivalent experience acceptable to the NYS Commissioner of Health.
  • Must have a Bachelors’ degree or be at least 25 years of age to meet overnight camp regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills.
  • American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant).
  • American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies is preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Plan and implement camp activities as per the program design.
  • Train, supervise, direct, and evaluate program staff.
  • Participate in the selection process to identify the best camp staff.
  • Manage the staff schedule to ensure staff to child ratios are met.
  • Plan and facilitate components of the pre-camp staff training program.
  • Provides for and organizes equipment and supplies for camp activities.
  • Ensure effective communication between staff and parents of campers.
  • Develop and maintain positive, open communication between campers and camp staff.
  • Implement and maintain work rules and regulations as required by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and the NYS Health Department.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas. Follow and enforce camp protocol to clean commonly used areas.  
  • Ensures PPE compliance.
  • Pursue new and innovative program initiatives.
  • Participate with campers when needed in the pool during swim lessons and free swim.
  • Oversee and perform the administrative functions including attendance, camper development, program planning, and evaluation.
  • Perform the responsibilities of the Overnight Camp Director during absences.
  • Implement ongoing safety checks to ensure a healthy and safe camp environment. Implement emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Certifications

American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant)  (training provided as needed.)

American Red Cross Responding to Emergencies is preferred (training provided as needed.)
