Job Description

Develops, organizes and implements high-quality Y Aquatic Programs at the Norfolk Family Y. This position will provide overall direction and leadership to the Y's aquatic facility.

Qualifications
  1. Preferred minimum 2 years of related experience in aquatics/lifeguarding.
  2. Completion trainer certification for Red Cross: Lifeguard, CPR & AED, First Aid & Bloodborne Pathogens within the first 3 months of hire.
  3. Completion of Child Abuse Prevention within 60 days of hire.
  4. Must have great interpersonal, leadership, public relations & communication skills.
  5. The ideal candidate will not only possess knowledge of the YMCA mission and values but will already be working to manifest these ideals in all aspects of their life.
Essential Functions
  1. Directs & supervises aquatic program activities to meet the YMCA objectives, standards and guidelines. Establishes new program activities within department to serve community objectives in accordance with strategic & operating plans. 
  2. Directors & monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local & YMCA health & safety regulations.
  3. Develops & maintains member connections through aquatic programs. 
  4. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules & directs personnel & volunteer as needed. Reviews & evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff & achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current & complete.
  5. Conducts & ensures proper maintenance of pool.
  6. Conducts lifeguard & swim instruction training.
  7. Creates & schedules lifeguards & swim instruction classes.
  8. Compiles program statistics to monitor & evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  9. Participate in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  10. Responds to all member & community inquires & complaints in a timely manner.
  11. Develops & monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  12. Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations, including knowledge of emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment.
  13. Promotes & incorporates the Norfolk Family Y four core values and character development model into all program activities.
  14. All other duties assigned by the CEO.
