Job Description

Our Babysitting Staff does much more than childcare. It’s about fostering achievement, relationships and belonging. Provides supervision to infants, toddlers, preschoolers and/or school-age children in a safe & fun environment while their parents are using the YMCA facility.

Qualifications

·         High school diploma or general educational degree (GED) certificate required; must be at least 18    years of age. 

·         Minimum of two years of experience working with youth preferred. 

·         Must complete required trainings annually.

·         Must hold current certification in CPR, First Aid, AED; certifications must be maintained throughout employment.

·         Ability to supervise youth and present positive role modeling through all interactions with program participants.

·         Be reliable and dependable

·         Exercise mature judgement and sound decision making

·         Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

·         Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

·         Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.

·         Bilingual a plus

Essential Functions

Our team members are enthusiastic about their work because they are positively impacting children every day. 

  • Greets and engages each child and parent; communicates often and professionally with families and interacts with children.
  • Monitors the drop off & pick up of children, follows policies and procedures related to such.
  • Performs age-appropriate activities children assigned to their group/program.
  • Encourages children to make friends with other children (if age appropriate) and communicates about activities and connections made to parents at pick-up.
  • Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the program space and equipment daily.
  • Offers children appropriate affection, verbal praise, and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for behavior; sets firm limits with positive phrasing and actions when necessary.
  • Maintains prompt hours and follows established procedures for absences.
  • Completes written documentation for incidents and injuries; contacts children’s parents immediately about emergency situations; communicates to parents about non-emergency incidents upon pick-up.
  • Actively interacts with children on an individual basis while maintaining control of the entire group.
  • Positions his/herself for optimal interactions and supervision of children.
