Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.

Qualifications

Minimum age of 18.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
One to two years of related experience is preferred.
YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Collaborates with the branch leadership to ensure the safe and responsible operation of the Y including rotating responsibilities for overall facility supervision & program coverage and actively participates in branch philanthropy efforts, special events, meetings and training sessions.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Monitors and develops aquatic programs to increase participation and retention.
  • Work with all other departments to create and support programs and activities that enhance membership engagement and retention.
  • Hire, supervise, train and grow staff of the Aquatic department; manage all staff functions and related responsibilities; reviews and evaluates staff performance. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete along with all in-service standards being met by leading in-services in accordance with association, Red Cross and Westbend policies and standards.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Provide data and reports as required for assigned duties.
  • Develop, manage and maintain balanced department budgets.
  • Participate in, promote and support the YMCA annual campaign fundraiing efforts.
  • Support all marketing and promotion efforts of the YMCA.
  • Plans and coordinates purchase and repair of facilities and equipment as needed.
  • Conducts or attends required meetings and maintains required certifications.
  • Monitors and maintains daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of the USA health and safety regulations.
  • Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  • Conducts certification courses in both YMCA and American Red Cross courses.
  • Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situation and child abuse prevention.
  • Ensures AED's, first aid kits, CPR equipment etc. are inspected regularly and updated.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • All other duties as required or requested.

Required Certifications

Immediately upon hire: Lifeguarding certification (ARC); American Red Cross First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer; AED; 02; and concussion training which meets state standards.

Within 30 days of hire, completion of required Redwoods and Praesidium trainings related to Child Abuse Prevention and Bloodborne Pathogens.

Within 6 months of hire: Aquatics Facility/ Pool Operator certification; LGI.
