The Aquatics Director’s primary responsibility is to direct all aspects of the B.R. Ryall YMCA aquatics program.
Job Description

The Aquatics Director’s primary responsibility is to direct all aspects of the B.R. Ryall YMCA aquatics program including but not limited to pool operations, swim instruction and water programming (excluding aquatics group fitness classes). This role ensures that all B.R. Ryall YMCA aquatics programs and activities are of the highest quality and conducted in a safe environment for all participants.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in supervisory role in an aquatics program, preferred.
  • Certification requirements include: Red Cross Lifeguard certification, Red Cross CPR/AED for the professional rescuer or CPR/AED for lifeguards, First Aid, Pool Operator – preferred, Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) – preferred
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to make presentations.
  • Strong oral and written skills with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
  • Must possess the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule that may include evenings, night and weekends.
Essential Functions
  • Develops strategies for the aquatics department focused on increasing participation and skill level of those participating.
  • Assists in the development of the annual operating goals, objectives and plans for the aquatics department that carries out the strategies.
  • Promotes program and membership enrollment in aquatic programs with existing and potential members and program participants.
  • Responsible for the overall safety of all individuals that enter the aquatics area. Able to respond to safety and emergency situations in an effective, efficient manner.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and comments in a professional, timely manner.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of and safety in aquatics area.
  • Secures and schedules pool facilities.
  • Assists Facilities Team in maintaining accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance ensuring adherence to all local, state and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Hires, trains and supervises all aquatics staff (lifeguards and swim instructors). Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete, as well as provides ongoing training.
  • Provides leadership in the planning and coordination of Y special events and community outreach activities, as needed.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
