At Illinois YMCA Youth & Government, students don’t just learn about government—they experience it. Through immersive, student-led programs, participants step into roles as legislators, attorneys, journalists, and advocates, culminating in a four-day model government experience at the Illinois State Capitol.
We’re seeking a highly organized, proactive professional to serve as the operational backbone of this dynamic, statewide program.

- Passionate about youth development, education, or civic engagement
What You Bring
- 2–4 years of experience in event coordination, program operations, or related work (or equivalent experience)
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Experience with tools like Airtable, Zoom, or project management platforms (preferred)
- Experience working with youth programs, educators, or government systems (a plus)
Essential Functions
Event & Program Operations
- Lead logistics for 6 regional conferences and a 4-day statewide General Assembly
- Coordinate venues, hotels, and vendors to ensure seamless execution
- Manage event timelines, materials, and on-site operations
Program Coordination & Communication
- Partner with advisors, volunteers, and staff to support program delivery
- Assist with volunteer onboarding, training, and engagement
- Maintain clear, professional communication across stakeholders
Data & Systems Management
- Track attendance, program data, and evaluation outcomes
- Support continuous program improvement through post-event analysis
Participant Experience
- Help ensure a safe, organized, and high-quality experience for all students
- Anticipate challenges and proactively solve problems in real time
Work Environment
- Some evenings and weekends required during program season
- Approximately 15–20 days of travel annually, including overnight stays
- Hybrid flexibility outside of peak program periods
