Job Description

SUMMARY:
This position directly manages an out of school time programming site.  It is responsible for the oversight of the program and, in partnership with the collaborating school, will facilitate the integration of the program into the overall school culture. This position is responsible for delivering a program that promotes children feeling valued as individuals and helps them achieve, build relationships and belong. It is charged with creating an environment of advocacy, collaboration, and partnership between stakeholders and the Y movement with site based relationships which include; youth, parents, administrators, and teachers.

SCHEDULE: Must be available Mon-Fri from 9:30a to 5:30p during the school year and 8:00a-4:00p during summer programming.

PROGRAM LOCATION: Findley Elementary School in Des Moines, Iowa

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age
  2. Degree in related field, or 5 or more years of work related experience
  3. One to two years related program development and management experience in a leadership role
  4. Demonstrated computer skills in a Google Workspace or Microsoft Windows environment.
  5. Be able to be approved by State of Iowa Child Care Licensing Requirements
  6. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certification OR equivalent – prior to starting.
  7. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired and maintained annually.
  8. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk and hear, sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, use hands and fingers to handle and feel and lift up to ten pounds of weight.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Vision abilities required by this job includes close and distance vision, and may at times require peripheral vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  This position usually works in a child care facility type of environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.  This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate management of program activities and representation of the organization at events.

Essential Functions
  1. Manage assigned program areas and activities, ensuring programs comply with all applicable YMCA standards and methods of operation and continually strive to attain the highest possible level of quality.
  2. Evaluate and review all aspects of assigned programs to ensure consistent quality and safety.
  3. Directly facilitate and manage delivery of programming at least 20 hours per week.
  4. Assist in the development and distribution of materials to market and promote programs, ensuring all communications meet YMCA the standards and requirements.
  5. Prepare and submit required budget management information for program area(s).
  6. Monitor assigned budget to ensure revenue and expenses are consistent with approved budget plan.
  7. Determine staffing needs of assigned program area(s) within YMCA guidelines and procedures.
  8. Build, lead, develop and train a staff team that genuinely cares about the needs of our community and our members and works to exceed expectations every day.
  9. Manage and maintain staffing to cover all areas of assigned program(s).
  10. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with school personnel.
  11. Serve as a YMCA representative, both within the organization and outside the organization.
  12. Assist in organization’s financial development efforts, including the annual fundraising campaign.
  13. Plan, prepare and organize special events as required.  
  14. Perform other duties as required.
