POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Health & Wellness, the Personal Training & Fitness Manager supports the leadership and administration of the YMCA’s Personal Training program while contributing to the overall operation of the Wellness Center.
This role provides supervision and guidance to personal trainers and fitness staff, ensures a high-quality and safe member experience, and supports the implementation of wellness initiatives that strengthen member engagement and retention. Working closely with the Associate Director, the Manager helps coordinate staff development, personal training services, and operational processes that support the success of the Fitness & Healthy Living Department.
Qualifications
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Current personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization (ACE, ACSM, NETA, NASM, or equivalent) preferred.
- Experience in health and wellness or a related field preferred.
- Enjoy, be skilled at and understand the importance of building relationships with people: members, staff, volunteers, donors, and community leaders.
- Able to receive and maintain CPR, first aid, AED certifications.
- Multi-task oriented; effective organizational skills and able to take initiative.
- Ability to effectively communicate and problem-solve.
- Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
- Experience with computers and database systems.
Essential Functions
Personal Training Program Oversight
- Oversees day-to-day coordination of the YMCA’s Personal Training program under the guidance of the Associate Director of Healthy Living.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for personal training inquiries and facilitates the intake process for members interested in training services.
- Connects members with appropriate trainers based on goals, experience level, availability, and specific health or fitness needs.
- Works with personal trainers to manage scheduling availability and ensure timely follow-up with prospective and current clients.
- Monitors personal training participation and program activity to support departmental planning and program growth.
- Supports onboarding and professional development of personal trainers to maintain high program standards.
Staff Supervision & Leadership
- Provides supervision, coaching, and ongoing support to Personal Trainers and fitness floor staff.
- Assists with recruitment, onboarding, training, and scheduling of personal training staff.
- Observes staff performance and provides feedback to support professional growth and service excellence.
- Fosters a collaborative team environment focused on accountability, communication, and member service.
- Ensures all staff maintain required certifications and credentials in accordance with YMCA standar
Fitness Center Operations
- Supports the Associate Director in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-supervised Wellness Center environment.
- Assists in monitoring equipment condition and communicates maintenance needs to the Facilities team.
- Helps ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety standards are consistently maintained throughout fitness areas.
- Contributes to implementation of wellness initiatives and programs designed to support member engagement and retention.
Member Engagement & Experience
- Be knowledgeable about all areas and share information with members.
- Builds strong relationships with members to support a welcoming and inclusive wellness environment.
- Promotes YMCA wellness programs and services in collaboration with the Membership and Healthy Living teams.
- Responds to member questions, feedback, and concerns in a professional and solution-oriented manner.
- Supports initiatives that strengthen member satisfaction, participation, and long-term engagement.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assists the Associate Director of Healthy Living with operational coordination of the Personal Training program and related wellness initiatives.
- Reviews and submits payroll for personal training staff in accordance with YMCA procedures.
- Supports tracking of program participation and operational data related to personal training services.
- Assists with scheduling coordination to ensure appropriate coverage of personal training services.
- Contributes to departmental planning and operational improvements that enhance service delivery and program quality.

- Work with the Development Team, HR and key philanthropy volunteers to increase your understanding and skill set.
- Train, mentor, equip and hold your staff accountable for participating in the annual campaign by identifying and recruiting member volunteers and soliciting donations.
- Build strategic relationships with members for year round member cultivation to increase the number of member campaign volunteers and donors.
- Achieve annual support campaign goal by directly and personally participating in campaign efforts and ongoing fundraising by identifying new volunteers and potential new donors. Recruit volunteer campaigners for the annual campaign; secure their campaign gift, and assist them in achieving the department goal.
Required Certifications
