The Dover YMCA branch boasts a cause-driven leadership team that is implementing exciting changes, including a major renovation of the wellness floor this fall. You'll hit the ground running with a freshly renovated fitness center and a team eager to elevate our services to the next level. 

The Director Health & Wellness (fitness operations) is responsible for leading and executing strategic initiatives that promote health and wellness across the organization or community. This role drives the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that encourage physical activity, nutrition, mental wellness, and chronic disease prevention. The Director will collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and key stakeholders to ensure measurable outcomes and long-term impact.

Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to serve a diverse community
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university in Fitness management, Health/Physical
  • Education, Exercise Science, exercise Physiology or equivalent.
  • Certified personal trainer certification (ACE or NASM) or other recognized PT certifications
  • Proven success in developing and scaling wellness programs.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices in health and wellness.
  • Excellent communication, strategic planning, and team leadership skills.
Essential Functions
  • Design, lead, and continuously improve and grow fitness and wellness programs including group exercise, personal training, active older adults, and inclusive wellness initiatives.
  • Ensure that all programs are evidence-based, culturally responsive, and aligned with YMCA core values.
  • Direct the recruitment, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management of fitness and wellness staff, including group exercise instructors and personal trainers.
  • Develop and monitor departmental budgets; analyze financial reports, manage revenue and expenses, and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators for programs and staff, using data to evaluate effectiveness and member satisfaction.
  • Partner with community organizations, healthcare providers, and local businesses to enhance wellness offerings and increase community outreach.
  • Lead innovation in member engagement and retention strategies, integrating technology and trends to enhance the member experience.
  • Ensure all operations meet or exceed YMCA standards for quality, safety, cleanliness, and member service.
  • Serve as a visible leader in the facility, modeling exceptional member engagement and fostering a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere.
