Job Description

The Vice President of Mission Advancement is a strategic and relationship-driven leader responsible for advancing the philanthropic mission of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh. This role plays a key leadership function in strengthening fundraising performance, cultivating philanthropic partnerships, and expanding engagement among donors, volunteers, corporations, and foundations.  This role will help deepen a culture of philanthropy across the Association while supporting sustainable growth in charitable giving. The position will also help strengthen communications that demonstrate the impact of YMCA programs and services.  

The Vice President of Mission Advancement will provide direct supervision to the Director of Annual Giving and Regional Annual Campaign Directors and will play a key role in strengthening corporate giving, philanthropic communications, and impact storytelling across the Association.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, mission advancement, or nonprofit development.
  • Demonstrated success in major gifts and relationship management.
  • Experience supervising fundraising professionals and managing performance toward goals.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with CEOs, board members, and high-level volunteers.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated success in corporate and foundation fundraising preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the YMCA.
Essential Functions
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer to execute and continuously refine a comprehensive, association-wide mission advancement strategy aligned with organizational priorities and community impact goals. 
  • Cultivate a strong culture of philanthropy across the YMCA by fostering collaboration across departments, branches, and camps.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors and foundation partners, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding leadership-level gifts that advance YMCA priorities.
  • Build and sustain meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, trustees, and community leaders to strengthen engagement and philanthropic impact.
  • Partner with executive leadership to activate board members, committees, and volunteers in philanthropic efforts, including identifying and developing future philanthropic leaders.
  • Lead and strengthen the Annual Campaign across the Association, ensuring goal attainment, year-over-year growth, and effective volunteer engagement and support.
  • Expand and execute corporate and institutional giving strategies, including cultivating partnerships, securing new funding opportunities, and deepening relationships with corporate and foundation partners.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications to enhance impact reporting, donor storytelling, and engagement tools that clearly demonstrate outcomes and mission impact.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, accountability measures, and best practices across philanthropic efforts while mentoring and developing staff to build organizational capacity.
  • Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in fundraising strategies, systems, and approaches.
