Job Description

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Programming Director develops, organizes, and implements high-quality youth and teen programming that drives participation, strengthens member engagement, and advances the YMCA’s mission. This role is responsible for growing and expanding youth signature programming and ensuring program quality, retention, and measurable community impact. The Youth Programming Director understands that program participation and membership growth go hand in hand, and works to create engaging pathways that connect youth and families to the YMCA. The Youth Programming Director oversees youth sports, youth and teen enrichment programs (including but not limited to Home School Power Hour, Basketball, Gymnastics/Tumbling, TKD, Volleyball, Park and Play), and provides management and oversight of the Impact Center and Teen Engagement initiative, along with food service and meal distribution programs.

Qualifications

1.    Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent.

2.    One to two years related experience preferred, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs.

3.    Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

4.    Fulfillment of state-specific hiring standards (if any) and completion of YMCA program specific certifications (list).

5.    Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of 
the community.

Essential Functions

1.    Manages, directs, and coordinates youth programs for assigned location(s), ensuring high-quality program delivery, participant satisfaction, and measurable impact.

2.    Drives program growth and expansion by developing new opportunities, strengthening signature programs, and increasing participation, retention, and community reach in alignment with strategic and operating plans.

3.    Recognizes and leverages the connection between program participation and membership engagement, creating welcoming entry points for youth and families to connect with the YMCA.

4.    Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs employees and volunteers as needed. Mentors and develops staff, many of whom are first-time employees, fostering leadership, accountability, and professional growth.

5.    Develops, manages, and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures programs operate within budget and that program fees are collected.

6.    Oversees food service and meal distribution programs, ensuring compliance with CACFP guidelines, documentation requirements, and all federal, state, and local regulations.

7.    Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

8.    Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living and safe program delivery.

9.    Develops and maintains relationships with schools, community partners, and organizations to expand program reach and strengthen community impact.

10.  Responds to all agency, parent, and community inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.

11.  Assists in the marketing and promotion of youth programming, helping increase program visibility and participation.

12.  Compiles program statistics and evaluates participation, outcomes, and effectiveness to guide program improvement and growth.

13.  Provides staff leadership for the annual campaign and other fundraising initiatives as assigned.

14.  Maintains proper records and department files.

15.  Performs other duties as assigned.
