Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Program Director of Competitive Swimming will be responsible for the management, supervision, and evaluation of the Silver Fins swim team program. This role is responsible for maintaining the certification training necessary to be a certified swim coach in accordance with the YMCA of the USA and USA Swimming as this position involves coaching.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience. 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three years working as swim coach and previous management related experience.
  • Must possess, maintain and renew American Red Cross and/or YMCA Lifeguard Certification
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness for applicable certifications.
  • Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, and make quick decisions under stress.
  • Must have experience with computers including meet manager, team manager and Team Unify.
  • Must be able to manage a competitive swim team program of 150+ Age Group swimmers, hire and supervise staff, facilities, equipment, scheduling, and the ability to work closely with aquatic leadership.
  • Must maintain office hours and be available to work mornings, evening and weekends for practice sessions or swim meets as scheduled.
  • Knowledge and experience in the recruitment, training and supervision of professional staff. 
  • Must have skills in public relations, communication, interpersonal relationships and presenting.

Essential Functions
  • Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches, dive coaches, and volunteers; hold staff accountable for performance, development, and equity in hiring and advancement.
  • Collaborate with the PSC Head Coach to build and manage the annual team budget.
  • Develop and implement high-quality practices and meet schedules; coach the top practice group while assisting with other groups to maintain visibility and accessibility.
  • Supervise and support the dive coach in operating the competitive dive program.
  • Support the YMCA’s Annual Campaign through team fundraising efforts.
  • Organize, host, and bid for USA Swimming, YMCA, and Masters meets (including AZ Championships and AZ Masters State Meets) to meet budget goals.
  • Manage meet operations including setup and breakdown.
  • Sustain a PSC-Goodyear Master’s program and Mighty Mahi developmental program.
  • Support and promote YMCA aquatics programs.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes athlete growth, parent engagement, and alignment with YMCA mission and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all association policies related to child and vulnerable adult abuse prevention and risk management.
