Job Description

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the overall management and development of the aquatics programs at the Newton YMCA. This role includes supervising staff, ensuring safety and compliance with all regulatory standards, managing the department's budget, and fostering a welcoming environment for all members. The Aquatics Director will also work collaboratively with other departments to promote community engagement and program growth.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience in aquatics programming.

- Minimum of three years of experience supervising lifeguards and swim instructors.

- Must be at least 21 years of age.

- Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA LG certification within 90 days of hire).

- Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification or equivalent (must attain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification within 120 days of hire).

- Current Basic Life Support (CPR/AED), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.

- Ability to demonstrate swim strokes, lifeguard rescues, and BLS/FA skills.

- Must maintain certification level of physical and mental readiness and be recertified before expiration.

- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Required certifications to attain within 180 days of hire may include YMCA Pool Operator or equivalent and YMCA Aquatics Management.

- Certifications to attain within one year of hire may include YMCA Introduction to Fiscal Management, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Supervision.

Essential Functions

- Ensure compliance with all YMCA, state, and local Health and Safety regulations, including the Pool Safety Plan and Emergency Action Plan.

- Maintain adequate staffing through recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating lifeguards, swim instructors, and water exercise instructors.

- Conduct regular in-service training as mandated by the YMCA Association Office.

- Develop, implement, track, and control the aquatics department’s budget in alignment with YMCA financial guidelines.

- Review program schedules and staffing to meet community needs while aligning with the YMCA’s mission.

- Maintain accurate aquatics program information across all platforms, ensuring visibility and accessibility for members.

- Foster positive relationships with participants, parents, guardians, and staff, demonstrating empathy in challenging situations.

- Maintain all necessary records for pool maintenance, staff training, certifications, and program attendance in compliance with requirements.

- Attend branch board and committee meetings as required.

Required Certifications

- Required Certifications: Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen

- Administration Preferred Certifications: Certified Pool Operator, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and YMCA Lifeguard Instructor Trainer

- Completion of YMCA’s online training upon date of hire
