The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Lead Infant Teacher position will experience an energetic and nurturing environment as part of our team at the Child Development Center located at Duquesne University. This full-time position offers the opportunity to help children grow, explore, and thrive in a developmentally appropriate, play-based environment.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience (2,500 verifiable hours) of working with children, required
  • Early childhood experience, preferred
  • CDA or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred; willingness to pursue credentials if not already held.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job, including active engagement and supervision.
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality, required.
Essential Functions
  • Create and implement engaging, age-appropriate curriculum and learning experiences for infants.
  • Foster a warm, safe, and supportive classroom environment where children feel secure and inspired to learn.
  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring a safe environment and positive behavior management.
  • Maintain open and respectful communication with families, sharing updates and building strong relationships.
  • Observe, assess, and document each child’s developmental progress; complete daily reports and attendance records.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to ensure high-quality programming and care.
  • Ensures child safety and health of youth at all times.
  • Actively supervises a group while maintaining ratio and utilizing the hands-free ID system.
  • When applicable, active supervision of a group within water while maintaining ratio, proper distance according to swim level, and utilizing the hands-free ID system.
  • Assists in supervision of teachers, counselors and aides through mentoring and evaluation. Support staff with youth behavioral and programming issues when the site director is unavailable.
  • Plan and implement curriculum and activities within established guidelines that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
  • Maintain program areas and adheres to program standards in regards to equipment, storage, safety, and cleanliness.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations of each youth and reports information to lead staff.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings, staff training, program activities, and family events (both on and off site).
  • Responsible for daily record keeping of and check in with lead staff that honors the confidentiality of the information.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective verbal and/or written communication with parents, youth, and other staff.
  • Maintains compliance with all DHS and OCD licensing requirements and NAEYC and/or Keystone Stars and/or ACA Accreditation standards and training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
