YMCA Camp Piomingo is a co-ed overnight camp where campers develop, grow, and become the best version of themselves. All staff members are expected to help achieve this purpose through their specific responsibilities and daily interactions.
The Hospitality & Camp Experience Director is responsible for creating a camp environment where participants’ care and comfort is at the heart of daily life. This full-time role oversees nutrition, dining, experiences, and camper/staff wellbeing while ensuring clean, welcoming facilities that support healthy habits. By focusing on balanced meals, positive lifestyle choices, and a culture of care, the Hospitality & Camp Experience Director helps every camper and staff member thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally during their camp experience.
- Minimum age: 21 years
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, recreation, hospitality/food service, or related field preferred; or 3–5 years of related experience
- ServSafe training (YMCA can help achieve certification if needed)
- Experience in wellness promotion, nutrition, or health education preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with campers, parents, staff, and volunteers
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Able to demonstrate enthusiasm, patience, creativity, and a commitment to modeling healthy living practices
- Good character, maturity, and alignment with YMCA values and goals
- Must clear a federal background check
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent service and model healthy lifestyle practices to all participants, staff, and guests.
- Order, plan, and serve meals that align with nutrition and wellness standards, offering balanced and appealing options.
- Oversee kitchen operations, staff hiring, food safety, and cleanliness standards.
- Collaborate with program staff to integrate healthy living into camp activities (e.g., hydration challenges, active play, mindfulness, outdoor adventure, cooking demos).
- Develop initiatives that promote healthy lifestyle habits for overall staff health and welfare.
- Maintain ServSafe Certification and ensure compliance with food safety and dietary needs.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for food service, dining, and housekeeping with a focus on health and wellness.
- Collaboratively plan menus that accommodate allergies, dietary restrictions, and diverse food preferences.
- Manage kitchen and housekeeping budgets, ordering, and inventory.
- Coordinate group needs (school groups, family camps, summer sessions) with the administrative team.
- Support and train staff to be role models in healthy living practices for campers.
- Promote sustainability in food and housekeeping operations (e.g., waste reduction, recycling, composting).
- Complete other duties as assigned.
