Blue Ridge Leaders School is seeking an inspirational School Director to lead the teen leadership school located in Black Mountain, NC.
Job Description
In this position, the School Director will build relationships with local YMCA CEOs, teen staff, teen leaders, and parents. The School Director will lead a team of volunteers who are responsible for leaders providing the daily school activities.
The school is currently held for a one-week session in the summer and the School Director is responsible for planning and attending. The School Director will work directly with Blue Ridge Assembly staff throughout the year to ensure that all fiscal, risk, compliance and licensing requirements are met to provide outstanding service to the school participants. The School Director will serve as the primary communicator for the school and work to protect and grow the impact of Blue Ridge Leaders School.
The School Director will actively support the YMCA’s fundraising efforts to ensure that every teen has access to the school. The School Director will manage the financial responsibilities associated with the program and will actively recruit and supervise volunteer staff who are passionate about the cause and mission of the YMCA and the School.

The successful Blue Ridge Leaders School Director will position the school as a premier teen leadership experience with a focus on high expectations for engagement, academics and performance. Key activities will promote good health, wellness and chronic disease prevention through physical activity. Leaders will be motivated to not only attend to their own health but take with them leadership skills that can be translated to influence the health of their own families and local communities, with particular interest in encouraging improved health for young people.
Qualifications
- At least ten years’ experience preferred at school (non-leaders division).
- At least five years preferred on staff team with demonstrated program management experience, two of which were within the last three years.
- At least three years of experience of direct engagement in teen and adult programs.
- Minimum of five years of successful experience leading program volunteers and supervising staff. At least two years of successful budget development and management.

Essential Functions
- Ensure all aspects of school support the YMCA Mission and Purpose of the Blue Ridge Leaders School
- Recruit and supervise School leadership team based upon current School needs
- Manage all activities to assure school enrollment quotas
- In conjunction with the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Finance Team, successfully develop and manage annual School budget
- Review and enforce policies and practices on all aspects of School operations in conjunction with Blue Ridge Assembly.
- Coordinate with relevant staff/departments at YMCA Blue Ride Assembly to ensure delivery of School
- Manage all operations of the School session including but not limited to:
- Recruit, select, supervise and evaluate School volunteer staff
- Ensure registration process is timely/fair/accessible including overseeing (paid) registrar
- Monitor and maintain all School equipment/supplies
- Determine local clubs to deliver morning devotions and monitor/work with club advisors on quality and consistency with daily themes
- Coach and develop incoming Honor Leaders to ensure preparedness and a high-quality experience for them and the School
- Work with local advisors as needed to consistently seek appropriate behavior and correct behavior during the School
- Routinely promote the YMCA Mission and School Purpose
- Build relationships between School Alumni and YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly Advancement team to grow philanthropic results
- Filter all regular feedback and input from various stakeholders and respond accordingly
- Deliver an engaging experience for leaders and alumni via social media platforms
- Expeditiously respond to questions on all aspects of School from constituent YMCA CEOs, Advisors, and Leaders Clubs
