The Vice President of Finance will serve as a key strategic leader responsible for overseeing the financial health and direction of the organization. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive financial strategies that align with the company’s long-term goals and drive sustainable growth. The VP of Finance will lead financial planning, risk management, and performance measurement to ensure sound fiscal governance and operational efficiency. They will collaborate closely with executive leadership to provide insights and recommendations that support informed decision-making and strategic initiatives. Ultimately, this position is critical in shaping the financial future of the organization while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and optimizing cost management.

Qualifications

1.Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or equivalent; MBA, CPA or CMA a plus.

2.Five or more years of substantive experience in accounting and financial management,non-profit sector preferred.

3.Knowledge and understanding of budget development, financial reporting, cashmanagement, business taxes, banking and debt financing instruments.

4.Demonstrated experience in effectively leading & developing a staff team.

5.Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with advanced abilities and knowledge of andexpertise with computerized accounting systems.

6.Possess high level of integrity and ability to use good judgement and discretion inhandling sensitive and confidential information.

7.Reliable transportation and travel among local branches and facility sites may berequired.

8.Complete within 30 days of hire: BLS CPR & FA and YMCA-specific trainings orcertifications (provided).

9.Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economicsegments of the community and successful clearance of background check.

10.Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training.

11.Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reportingand responsibilities.

12.Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift.

13.Screen, train, and enforce abuse prevention policies for staff.

14.Promote a reporting culture, address violations, and maintain confidentiality.

15.Ensure compliance with mandated reporting and communicate zero tolerance to allstaff.

Essential Functions

1.Responsible for the quality, accuracy, and thoroughness of all accounting activities of theYMCA. This includes accounting for accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventorycontrol, payroll, fixed assets, general ledger, etc. Ensures the integrity of general ledgerand financial document filing/retrieval systems.
2.Works closely with CEO and members of the senior leadership team along with theFinance Committee to provide financial reporting and information as scheduled andrequested. Conducts analyses, identifies financial trends, and makes recommendationsto solve problems and enhance financial performance where possible. Prepares financialinformation and attends regular Board of Director and other assigned committeemeetings and provides financial reports to the board.
3.Oversees the development of the annual operating budget, including all branch budgets.Works closely with operations staff to ensure that branch budgets are well-planned,realistic, and prepared in a timely manner.
4.Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard theYMCA’s financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financialdata.
5.Manages the staff and oversees the operations of the accounting/finance, businessservices, information technology and other assigned departments.
6.Oversees and certifies the annual audit and meets periodically with the outside auditorsto maintain communications and keep them informed of changes in the YMCA. Ensuresthat current accounting standards and legal requirements are met.
7.Oversees preparation of reports to YMCA of the USA and governmental agencies.Oversees preparation of tax returns including IRS Form 990.
8.Establishes, maintains and/or monitors all banking and financing relationships.
9.Maintains all necessary records and accounting reports and records all transactions on atimely basis.
10. Manages good working relationships with professional service providers, such asbankers, attorneys, accountants, insurance companies, other financial institutions andvendors. Ensures that quality services are received, and fees are reasonable.
11. Actively participates &/or leads department and association meetings and/or relatedtrainings.
12. Performs other duties as assigned
