Job Description

The Senior Program Director of Aquatics serves as a Cause-Driven Leader responsible for directing all aspects of aquatic operations, programming, and safety initiatives. This leadership role focuses on fostering community relationships while advancing the YMCA's mission through exceptional aquatic programs, sustainable revenue growth, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, or a minimum of five (5) years of YMCA program administration experience.
Proven success in aquatics program development, administration, and community engagement.
At least two (2) years of supervisory experience in a YMCA or similar organization.
Must have evening and weekend availability as needed.

Aquatic Responsibilities:

Oversee and manage all aquatic programming, including swim lessons, lifeguarding and lifeguard training.
Supervise and support aquatic staff, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
Ensure compliance with all YMCA standards, state and local health codes, and safety guidelines.
Maintain and monitor pool facilities and pool maintenance in coordination with the Building & Grounds team to ensure operational excellence.
Develop and manage budgets (operational and capital) to align with financial goals and objectives.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to promote aquatic programs effectively.
Plan and execute an annual aquatic calendar, including special events and training schedules.
Serve as the primary advisor for aquatic-related risk management and safety initiatives.


Community Engagement:

Build strong relationships with community partners, schools, and members to promote aquatic programs.
Represent the YMCA at community events and serve as an advocate for water safety and aquatics.
Risk Management:

Lead safety and emergency preparedness training for aquatic staff and volunteers.
Monitor certifications, in-service training, and ensure compliance with risk management policies.


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Proficient swimming ability and proper application of rescue and first aid techniques required.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and perform physical rescues from the pool when necessary.
Continuous standing, walking, and working in aquatic environments with potential exposure to heat, humidity, fumes, or odors.
Mentally alert and able to make sound judgments in stressful situations.

Required Certifications

YMCA Lifeguard
YMCA Lifeguard Instructor
YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (current or within 90 days)
Certified Pool Operator (Current or within 90 days)
CPR/First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications
CPR/First Aid Instructor
