Association Description

Located near the central Gulf Coast of Florida, the YMCA of the Suncoast is a strong YMCA engaged in many national YMCA initiatives. This is an Association serving more than 80,000 community members each year. The James P. Gills Family Branch is located on 30 acres in West Pasco County. It has a 35,000 square foot main building with two aquatic venues, gymnasium, kids zone, wellness center, multi-purpose rooms, low ropes course, climbing wall, teen center, TRX suspension training room, and a 5,000 square foot Youth Activity Center. The branch impacts over 9,000 people in our community with a focus on Healthy Living, Social Responsibility and Youth Development.

Position Summary

Responsibilities of this position will include staff supervision, budgeting, expense control, and income generation for a $378,000 department budget, program development and quality control, community relations, collaborations, long-range planning, and equipment and facility maintenance. The Wellness Director also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the Board.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in field required, Master's Degree in related field preferred
  • Must have a minimum 3 years experience in related field and 2 years experience in management or supervision
  • Must meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria
  • Y-USA Team leader, Multi-Team Leader, or Organizational Leader Certification preferred
  • Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and National Certification as a Personal Trainer
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as squat, stoop, or bend into awkward positions
  • Must be able to carry and spot up to 50 pounds
  • Visual and auditory observation of staff, volunteers, and members required
  • Must be able to multitask, manage and cultivate relationships, as well as have a high level of emotional maturity
  • Must have strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation skills. Must also have strong organizational skills
Essential Functions

High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities

  • Direct and administer total operation of the Wellness Department, including the interpretation and execution of established policies, the development of procedures and methods, staffing, evaluation of the effectiveness of the programs, and operation
  • Plan and conduct a wide variety of wellness programs and activities that maximize the facilities available, support the Cause, and enhance membership
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Ensure the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment by keeping supplies organized, maintain and clean facility, and care for equipment
  • Promote and monitor membership and/or program growth, taking a leadership role in membership cultivation and retention


Staff and Volunteer Management

  • Recruit, hire, supervise, and develop department staff and volunteers through use of Leadership Competency
  • Model resources that create a culture of cause-driven leaders
  • Lead and/or participate in a branch committee(s)
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings to keep staff and volunteers well-informed
  • Support branch Y Community Champions efforts

Finance

  • Prepare annual department(s) budget for approval by the Executive Director
  • Recommend adjustments and administer the budget, exercising necessary expense controls and revenue production

Community Development

  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities
  • Promote and communicate the objectives and programs of the YMCA through public communication media
  • Actively participate in community organizations

Financial Development

  • Incorporate storytelling in an effort to advance our mission and cause
  • Participate in Annual Campaign efforts
  • Identify and recruit Annual Campaign volunteers
  • Lead and/or participate in branch special events for fundraising or mission advancement

Operating Values

  • Serve as a member of branch management and support the branch and association objectives of the YMCA
  • Teach, role model, and promote SMART behavior

Strategic

  • Support the GPS initiatives by participating on a Commitment Team
