The Horse Program Coordinator will design and coordinate the Equine/ Horses/ Horse Barn programming for the Deer Valley camps. Programs will include trail rides, pony rides, and horse familiarization activities (grooming, etc.). The Coordinator will also ensure the health and wellbeing of the horses, and the safety and cleanliness of the barn and pastures. The Coordinator will be accountable to the Program Directors and/or the Executive Director.
- Proficient horsemanship skills and riding ability.
- Knowledge of horse care and riding.
- Understanding of and ability to operate a barn facility.
- Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Driver’s license.
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- 2 years of experience preferred.
- Possess the ability to follow through on requests, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and provide the highest level of customer service.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
● Coordinates a variety of program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Expands programs within the community in
accordance with strategic and operating plans.
● Prepare the horses for the riding season including exercising the horses and riding the trails.
● Horse care including daily feeding and watering, including outside water troughs.
● Daily cleaning of the stalls and appropriately bedding for each horse.
● Groom and tacking horses to prepare them for rides.
● Maintain a clean barn and barn office including sweeping, dusting, removing cobweb, .
● Keep manure cleaned up.
● Maintain riding trails.
● Provide basic riding instructions to all guests before, during and after scheduled rides.
● Notify Program Directors immediately if something is unusual or atypical with the animals.
● Work with the Program Directors to recruit, train, and schedule equestrian staff and volunteers.
● All other duties and requested by the Program Directors and Executive Director.
