In conjunction with other professional camp staff, this position will be responsible for planning, developing, administering, growing, and evaluating South Mountain YMCA Camps programs, including hosting and group coordination of year-round Outdoor Center programs. This position will contribute to marketing all programs, participate in hiring and supervising seasonal staff, and assume budget management responsibilities. Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent work experience. YMCA Camping experience preferred. Full-time exempt position offers full benefits, 12% retirement after vestment, and on-site housing is required.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The CCW Program Director is recognized as part of the Full-Time Leadership Team of The South Mountain YMCA Camps. They will be tasked with program administration and operation of the Camp Conrad Weiser Overnight Camp Program. This position, in conjunction with the Bynden Wood Day Camp Program Director, will oversee and administer all aspects of South Mountain YMCA Camp Summer Programs. During the Outdoor Center season (Sept – May), this position will be part of the team that serves as Group Logistics Point of Contact, Director on Duty, and Host. This position is an integral part of the seasonal staff hiring team. They will recruit, hire, and supervise seasonal staff. They will assist in camper recruitment and administration for other program departments. This position is responsible for leading training and development of seasonal staff, as well as budget responsibility.
The Program Director must have a high level of people skills, customer service, and program knowledge. Experience in leadership roles in a camp setting is required (Environmental Education, Outdoor Recreation, and Summer Camping). A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required or equivalent work experience in lieu of a degree. The ability to work a flexible schedule, which will include nights and weekends, is expected. This person will attain YMCA of the USA Team Leader Certification within the first 2 years of beginning the position.

Lead, supervise, and nurture a dynamic staff team. Use leadership skills to recruit and develop staff that are customer service-focused because of their commitment to teamwork. Goals: The Satisfaction Survey will indicate positive satisfaction levels. Teamwork will be measured by Patrick Lencioni’s Team Assessment questionnaire in The Five Dysfunctions of a Team. Develop Career Development Plans for all members of the Outdoor Center staff team.
Improve financial stability. Sound fiscal operation is critical, including controlling expenses and generating income from program fees with a team approach that considers the performance of other departments. Goal: Exceed annual revenue expectations and margin projections.
Programs maintain annual growth. Ensure that both Summer Camp and Outdoor Center growth and development relate to community needs and the mission of the YMCA. Goal:3% yearly growth.
Abundant Assets and outcome measurements. Ensure that abundant assets are included in program plans and take the lead in developing outcome measurements for all youth programs. Goal: Positive results from surveys.
Exemplary Communication Standards: Upholding a commitment to excellence, we ensure timely and precise communication with program participants, camper families, vendors, and staff. This entails proactive outreach through emails and calls, publication of comprehensive program descriptions and schedules, and prompt responsiveness to emails and phone calls.
Child Protection and Risk Management. These critical items are everyone’s job. Every position has a role in abuse prevention, reporting, and risk management.
