The President/CEO plays a crucial role in advancing the mission of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the President/CEO of the Franklin County YMCA, this leader will set the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring financial stability, managing staff development, and overseeing daily operations. Additionally, the President/CEO will position the YMCA as a key community partner, collaborating to address critical social issues and drive meaningful change. This position reports directly to the Franklin County YMCA Board of Directors and operates in alignment with the board’s policies, directives, and guidelines.
ABOUT FRANKLIN COUNTY’S YMCA
Brief History: The YMCA in Franklin County has deep roots in the Greenfield community, beginning in November 1889 in the GAR building, now the site of the County Courthouse. After incorporating as a Massachusetts non-profit in 1939, the YMCA established an office at 278 Main Street in Greenfield. As membership grew, the barn behind the William Washburn house at 451 Main Street was donated in April 1943 to accommodate expanding programs. In 1971, a larger facility was constructed on the same site, which remains the current location of the YMCA. Between 1995 and 2005, several additions were made to the building, shaping Franklin County Y into its present form.
Franklin County’s YMCA is a vital institution serving over 5,000 members across multiple locations, including Camp Apex and the Y Academy at Bolger. The organization offers a wide range of programs that promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Among its most impactful offerings are evidence-based health initiatives such as Enhance Fitness, designed for older adults with arthritis, and Moving for Better Balance®, a Tai Chi-based program that helps prevent falls. The Y also provides Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring and Prescribe the Y, a 12-week provider-referred wellness initiative that integrates fitness, nutrition, and water therapy to support individuals managing chronic conditions.
In addition to its health-focused programs, the Y delivers comprehensive out-of-school time services, including before and after school care and summer day camps. Aquatics, youth sports, gymnastics, and group exercise classes are available for all ages and abilities. The YMCA Wellbeing Initiative further supports mental health and emotional resilience through social-emotional learning, art therapy, and mindfulness practices. These programs reflect the Y’s commitment to inclusive, evidence-based impact and community-centered innovation.

The board believes its new CEO should be an experienced leader who has the background and qualities that will permit him or her to achieve excellence in the following roles:
Develop and Implement a Strategic Plan: Work effectively with volunteers, community leaders, and key staff, to create and develop a strategic plan that addresses the needs of the communities served by the Y and includes defined organizational strategies, a clear implementation plan with deliverables, and measurable goals. Improve Operating Performance: Engage the board and appropriate staff to develop an annual tactical plan for identifying and achieving key goals and objectives towards operating with safe, relevant, and sustainable practices. Fiscal Management: Use high-level financial analysis to forecast financial trends, growth, and stability, while consistently leading the organization to balance or surplus operations by growing earned revenue and contributions and controlling costs. Position the Y as a Vital Partner for Community Change: Serve as an ambassador for the mission, purpose, and vision for the YMCA within the community. Possess the ability to develop and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds, while always upholding the highest standards and values of the Y. Ensure your Y is seen as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community by connecting all people to their potential, purpose, and each other. Steward Fundraising Efforts: Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan that will establish the YMCA as a leading nonprofit organization within the community through the engagement of members, volunteers, staff, and donors. Identify the need for successful capital fundraising, while taking the organization to a new level of effectiveness and impact in annual giving and endowment. Build and Lead Staff: Ensure a talent development system is in place and executed effectively with cultural competence. Hire, motivate, nurture, retain, and hold staff accountable for key objectives. Salary Range: $100,000 to $120,000 annually
