Job Description
Under the direction of the COO and in accordance with established Association policies, procedures and goals, the Program Director is responsible for the management and supervision of the Healthy Living programs and equipment as well as the development, managing, supervision of Youth Sports programs.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of three years of experience in the health and fitness arena and/or two years of experience in Youth Sports/Youth Recreation/Sports Recreation.
- NCCA Accredited Certification: ACE, ACSM, ISSA, NASM, or 1 year Exercise Science Certification
- Must have the ability to work with, and support youth, adults and families in their development.
- Management skills in staff/volunteer recruitment, training, supervision, and knowledge of program planning and promotion are preferred.
- This position requires one to be enthusiastic and able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
- The ability to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines is necessary.
- Computer literacy with the ability to create and edit flyers to Y marketing standards is necessary - must be able to use email, properly draft letters and other written correspondence.
- Must be able to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Have a genuine interest in people and the ability to establish harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, parents, and children.
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or
American Safety & Health Institute

- Adult Recreational programming (Basketball, Ping-Pong, Pickleball & Racquetball)
- Youth Sports Programming (Basketball League, Sports Clinics & Rock Climbing)
- Staff & Volunteer Recruitment and Development
- Special Events, Projects, Tournaments, Games, etc.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Program Oversight & Delivery
- Design, implement, and evaluate quality wellness and sports programs aligned with YMCA goals.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all members.
- Ensure programs meet member needs and support wellness goals.
- Plan and manage program schedules, budgets, and participation targets.
- Expand and enhance program offerings, including evidence-based health initiatives.
Member Engagement
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive atmosphere for all.
- Be consistently visible and responsive to member and participant concerns.
- Support member recruitment, retention, and satisfaction strategies.
- Organize orientations and trainings for program participants and parents.
Staff and Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and volunteers across program areas.
- Maintain personnel records and ensure all certifications and trainings are current.
- Promote a culture of accountability, recognition, and professional development.
- Ensure adherence to YMCA policies, including safety and child protection standards.
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure all program spaces and equipment are well-maintained and safe.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols, including staff emergency response training.
- Monitor incident reporting and ensure timely documentation.
- Maintain inventory and address equipment repairs or replacements promptly.
Fiscal Responsibility
- Develop and manage departmental budgets and payrolls.
- Monitor financial performance and adjust strategies to meet targets.
- Follow procurement procedures and support fundraising efforts.
Marketing & Communications
- Create and distribute promotional materials in line with YMCA branding.
- Leverage social media, email, and community outreach to market programs.
- Ensure timely and accurate updates of program information online and in print.
Professionalism & Collaboration
- Maintain professional appearance and communication standards.
- Participate actively in meetings, events, and interdepartmental collaboration.
- Respond promptly to emails and inquiries (within 24 hours).
