Job Description

The Aquatics Director is a key leadership role at the Pocono Family YMCA, responsible for developing and managing a comprehensive aquatic program. Under the direction of the Executive Director, this position ensures high-quality, safe, and mission-aligned programming that serves members of all ages. The Director oversees aquatics staff, maintains compliance with safety regulations, supports community engagement, and fosters youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility through aquatics.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in aquatics

Current certifications: YMCA Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid

Actively working toward YMCA Leader Certification

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills

Ability to pass all required background checks and screenings

Experience managing swim team programs and lifeguard training

Knowledge of pool chemical management and safety regulations

Previous experience with budgeting and scheduling

Strong communication skills for staff, community, and board interaction

Essential Functions

Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise aquatics staff and volunteers

Ensure staff certifications are current and meet YMCA and Red Cross standards

Schedule lifeguards, instructors, and manage payroll submissions

Maintain compliance with all local and state aquatics safety guidelines

Oversee pool operations, water quality, and equipment maintenance

Expand program offerings to meet community needs, including rentals, swim lessons, and fitness classes

Collaborate with swim team leadership and provide support for events and committees

Track volunteer records and provide consistent supervision and risk management

Collect and respond to customer feedback

Maintain accurate program data and reporting

Assist with marketing, special events, and community partnerships

Manage department budget and ensure financial responsibility
