Job Description

The Fund Development Director is a key leadership position responsible for advancing our YMCA’s mission through strategic fundraising, donor cultivation, and philanthropic partnerships. This role cultivates meaningful donor relationships, oversees annual and major gift campaigns, grants, capital support, and fosters a culture of giving across staff, volunteers, and the communities we serve in Terre Haute, Brazil, and Greencastle Indiana. 

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in fundraising or development, preferably in a nonprofit or YMCA setting.

  • Proven track record of successful donor cultivation, major gift solicitation, and campaign leadership.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to write and edit grant proposals, reports, and summaries.

  • Strong strategic thinking and organizational abilities.

  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to always demonstrate professional conduct.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and management of confidential information.

  • Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft applications, social media technology, fundraising software and CRM systems.

  • Understanding of and enthusiasm for the YMCA’s mission and cause.

Essential Functions

Fundraising Leadership

  • Develop and execute a strategic fund development plan aligned with the YMCA’s mission, goals, and priorities.
  • Lead all aspects of fundraising, including the Annual Campaign, major gifts, planned giving, and special initiatives.
  • Set and achieve revenue goals through targeted fundraising efforts.

Donor Cultivation & Stewardship

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, corporate partners, foundations, and community stakeholders.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, ensuring timely follow-ups, acknowledgments, and stewardship plans.
  • Create donor stewardship recognition programs and ensure high standards of appreciation and engagement.

Team & Board Collaboration

  • Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and campaign volunteers to support and achieve fundraising goals.
  • Train, coach, and empower staff and volunteers to actively participate in fund development.
  • Provide regular progress reports and strategic advice to leadership.

Communications & Events

  • Oversee the development of compelling fundraising materials and communications.
  • Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns to increase visibility and engagement.
  • Ensure brand consistency and alignment with YMCA values in all outreach.

Grants & Reporting

  • Identify grant opportunities and oversee the grant writing and reporting process.
  • Maintain accurate donor records, campaign data, and performance metrics in fundraising databases.
