 Primary Summary:

 The YMCA's focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Wellness Director is responsible for advancing the overall Association Healthy Living programs, including but not limited to Personal Training, Group Fitness, and other fitness & wellness focused events and services that support the organization’s strategic vision and mission. This position will also be responsible for creating a premier member experience delivered on the Fitness Floor, including a new member orientation, and a new fitness program onboarding. 

Qualifications
  1. Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in Wellness Programming with the teen, and adult population.

  2. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience.

  3. Bachelor's Degree in Health Science, Recreation or related field preferred.

  4. Proven Management ability in budget or finance and staff management and development.

  5. Ability to work successfully in a highly flexible and rapidly changing work environment as well as work weekends.

  6. Effective written communication skills. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups.

  7. Strong ability to manage programs aligning with delivery of the YMCA's mission.

  8. Candidate must possess a valid personal training certification from a nationally recognized organization such as NASM, ACE, or ACSM. 

Physical Demands:

  1. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.

  2. Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.

  3. Ability to walk, stoop, kneel, push, pull, climb, work in a confined space, and carry and lift a maximum of 50 pounds.

  4. Ability to adapt to change quickly and take responsibility for the health and safety of others.

Essential Functions
  1. Provides leadership and direction for a variety of branch healthy living programs and services for the community, including wellness promotion, risk reduction, and supporting those with chronic diseases.

  2. Promotes, supports, directs, and educates staff, members, and community participants on the benefits of participating in key healthy living programs to maximize the health and well-being of the community, improve revenue potential, and increase member retention.

  3. Manages a high-performing staff team by building relationships to ensure the delivery of quality programs and services for all.

  4. Works closely with the branch management team on innovative approaches in program development and impact measurement.

  5. Utilize actionable information and data to continuously drive improvement and implement plans to achieve desired goals and objectives of Health & Wellness.

  6. On-boards, trains, develops, and supervises wellness staff.

  7. Ensures a high level of expertise in healthy lifestyle modules, equipment, and customer service initiatives, enhancing the member, guest, and program participant experience and satisfaction.

  8. Serves as a member of the branch management team, performing specific duties that support the overall success of branch operations.

  9. Ideal candidate will take a hands-on approach to personal training program and will lead 3-5 clients per week. 

Supervisors and administrators will: 

  • Follow employee's and volunteers' screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with ongoing supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with children and teens.
  • Require employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
