The VP of Development supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading
nonprofit committed to strengthening communities. This position will have a strong ability to create genuine
connections with our staff, members, partners, and community. Serves as a member of the President/CEO’s
executive leadership team, providing strategic leadership in marketing and financial development to advance the
YMCA’s mission and values through annual giving, government and foundation grants, endowment bequests and
gifts and capital campaigns. Works with the President/CEO in developing an actively engaged fundraising volunteer
board of directors and positioning the YMCA as a “charity of choice” for the investment of donations within the
local community. This dynamic professional will help lead a culture of philanthropy.
● Eight (8) or more years of professional experience with a background in fundraising in the YMCA or another nonprofit organization
● Ability to relate to and build impactful relationships with top community leaders and diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
● Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission
● Foundation and government grant writing expertise
● Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work with confidential matters
● Ability to travel for donor and prospective donor visits, funding presentations, and YMCA meetings
● Available to work an occasional evening or weekend
● Directs, coordinates and initiates association financial development for mission advancement that will impact and strengthen the community
● Advances fundraising efforts through development of innovative approaches to donor identification, cultivation, contact relationship management, and solicitation of major gift prospects. Maintains donor database utilizing CRM software to track and record gifts, pledges, donors, and prospects
● Develops strategies to increase volunteer engagement at all levels of financial development
● Creates systems, manages resources and drives annual giving strategies needed to carry out fundraising plans and events
● Provides leadership and supervision to development staff
● Provides “how-to” training in fundraising for staff and volunteers. Adept at educating, motivating, and providing feedback to individuals related to best practices in fundraising.
● Is well versed in grant application processes showcased through research, preparation, and coordination of proposals from government sources and private foundations
● Develops, implements, and manages donor outreach, recognition, stewardship strategies, donor engagement and communication efforts including meetings, mailings, reports, and events
● Leads community advocacy efforts in collaboration with funding partners, city council, business leaders and other partners
● Works closely with branch and program leadership to create communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support
● Establishes and monitors the budget for financial development, committed to fiscal responsibility on behalf of the YMCA
● Provides staff leadership to committees/task forces of the Board of Directors as assigned
● Represents the association as required by the President/CEO
● Adheres to all YMCA of Southern Arizona policies and procedures
● Ensures abuse risk management by screening employees and volunteers, providing supervision, training, and feedback, enforcing policies and procedures, responding to violations and reports, following mandated reporting requirements, communicating the organization’s commitment to consumer protection, and reporting key information to the Board of Directors
● Is flexible in traveling to multiple sites around the greater Tucson area
● Performs other duties as assigned

● Bachelor’s degree required
● YMCA Organizational Leader certification and/or CFRE preferred
