Camp Description
Fairview Lake YMCA, an ACA accredited camp, sits on mile-long Fairview Lake in Stillwater, New Jersey. Out 600 acres adjoin the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area, providing access to the Appalachian Trail, Delaware River, hiking and breathtaking views. Established in 1915, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps has been providing Sleep Away summer camping for grades 2-11, Environmental Education for schools, Family Programs, and Weekend Retreats for individuals and groups. We develop programs for children, adults and families to realize their potential by focusing on specific skill sets, building confidence and creating a sense of belonging.

Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Summer Camp Director is responsible for the effective, efficient functioning and operation of all off-site programming for Fairview Lake. The incumbent will be accountable for facilities, programs and the effective use of staff. The Summer Camp Director will prepare program areas, train staff and instruct participants in all areas, with the utmost priority to ensure the safety of participants, proper use of equipment and facilities while ensuring an enjoyable experience to participants.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Recreation or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with children in active setting, including knowledge of recreation and environmental activities.
  • Strong Customer Service, Time Management and Organizational skills.
  • Strong fiscal management and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage all situations with poise applying effective judgement and sound decision making.
  • Strong commitment to following all sanitation procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build team spirit, communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and take initiative that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the YMCA.
  • Strong computer skills, software proficiency with Microsoft applications.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required.
Essential Functions
  • Responsible for all programmatic aspects of Summer Camp at Off-site facility and Adventure Guide program.
  • Enable proactive, clear, effective and timely internal communications in order to ensure a positive and consistent camp and/or program experience.
  • Implement strategies to promote recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Direct team to achieve annual goals. Identify and work with leadership to grow opportunities to enhance group and program experience.
  • Develop staff profiles and skill requirements, including customer service and computer skills. Identify gaps and help coordinate training as needed. Direct overall ongoing staff assessment to ensure that staff are operationally effective.
  • Work with leadership team to coordinate program registration, and work with program directors to maximize sales within program areas.
  • Develop, plan and implement procedures and methods to achieve department goals.
  • Provide guidance to camp Marketing to ensure member recruitment, and implement marketing efforts successfully, including community events, direct mail, newspaper ads, and other marketing channels.
  • Develop and nurture new and existing partnerships and collaborations throughout the community.
  • In partnership and coordination with Outdoor Center Director, recruit, hire, professionally develop and supervise the program and camp staff to ensure effective and efficient performance.
  • Lead camp activities: Archery, Boating, Climbing Wall, Hikes, Team Building and Camp Fire programs, science classes and seasonally appropriate activities.
  • Expand, grow, continually evaluate and upgrade existing programs and brainstorm with staff to develop new educational programs in new and existing markets.
  • Organize, develop and execute promotion that successfully markets the offerings of programs with leadership and Marketing.
  • Act as a Primary Host for all groups.  Have lessons prepared for all programs, which communicate accurate knowledge of the subject area to participants.
  • Leadership role in the Annual Support Campaign, Capital Fundraising and other related activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as requested and necessary.
