Job Description
The Senior Director of Building & Grounds is responsible for leading all facility maintenance, custodial operations, safety, and cleanliness functions. This position ensures the YMCA facility remains safe, clean, welcoming, and fully operational for members, staff, volunteers, and guests. The Senior Director provides leadership and direction to maintenance and custodial staff while overseeing preventive maintenance programs, supply management, facility inspections, and operational standards. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on support to maintain a high-quality member experience and facility environment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- High School diploma and Associate's degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in facility maintenance, custodial operations, or building management.
- Previous supervisory experience including hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management.
- Experience operating cleaning equipment and maintenance tools, including vacuums, buffers, and hand tools.
- Knowledge of facility safety standards, preventive maintenance practices, and custodial procedures.
- Experience managing supply and equipment purchases, inventories, and vendor relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve maintenance and custodial concerns.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to complete required YMCA and position-specific trainings within designated timelines.
Essential Functions
- Lead and supervise all building maintenance, custodial, and grounds operations to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming facility.
- Recruit, train, schedule, develop, and evaluate maintenance and custodial staff.
- Oversee daily facility cleaning and maintenance activities, ensuring work is completed according to established standards.
- Direct staff in maintaining YMCA cleanliness, safety, and appearance expectations throughout the facility and grounds.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and address maintenance, repair, and safety concerns promptly.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules and procedures.
- Monitor and maintain supplies, equipment, and inventory levels; coordinate purchasing as needed.
- Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, local regulations, and safety requirements.
- Respond to and resolve member, staff, and community concerns related to facility maintenance and cleanliness.
- Perform custodial and minor maintenance duties as necessary to support operational needs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, and inventory records.
- Collaborate with other department leaders to support overall branch operations and strategic initiatives.
- Participate in association-wide projects, leadership meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Support the YMCA mission and values by fostering a culture of safety, service, accountability, and excellence.
