The Program Director is responsible for leading and growing programs that reflect the YMCA’s mission and serve community needs. This role includes supervising and developing part-time staff and volunteers, managing program operations and budgets, and ensuring a positive and high-quality experience for participants. The Program Director also builds partnerships with community organizations and supports outreach, and fundraising initiatives to strengthen engagement and impact.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to direct and coordinate programs, supervise volunteers and staff, develop and monitor budgets, and handle marketing and public relations.
Completion of YMCA-specific training, including Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens, within 180 days of hire.
Program Management:
Plan, coordinate, and supervise all program activities to meet YMCA objectives.
Expand youth sports and adult activity programs within the community in line with strategic and operating plans.
Secure and schedule athletic fields and facilities.
Transport and set up equipment for activities; monitor and purchase necessary sporting equipment such as budget permits.
Team and Volunteer Supervision:
Recruit, train, and supervise program staff and volunteers.
Create teams from paid and financially assisted registrations.
Organize and conduct parent orientation meetings, staff training, and meetings for coaches, instructors, and volunteers.
Communication and Community Engagement:
Develop and distribute activity schedules, rules, guidelines, and handbooks.
Organize and conduct clinics,special activities, and events.
Assist in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
Program Operations:
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and participation of programs, instructors, volunteers, and coaches.
Compile program statistics, data, and reports.
Ensure compliance with state and local regulations, and that program standards and safety procedures are met.Maintain facilities, grounds, and equipment in good condition.
Administration and Budget Management:
Develop and manage department budgets related to the position.
Review marketing, distribution of program information, and organization of program registrations.
Leadership and Collaboration:
Facilitate communication and provide leadership among staff, volunteers, and members.
Serve as a community leader, building collaboration based on trust and credibility to advance YMCA mission and goals.
