Ready to grow as a leader in aquatics?  Join our team as an Assistant Aquatics Director and take on a key role in program oversight, staff supervision, and operational excellence while helping shape a positive and safe environment for our members.

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Oversees the development and operations of aquatics programs, and/or other programs. Recruits, trains and supports assigned staff. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatics programs.

Qualifications
  1. Associates degree in sport management, recreation or related field or equivalent experience preferred.
  2. One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as an aquatics coordinator, swim team coach.
  3. Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.  Actively supports all DEIB efforts.
  4. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  5. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Suite, and experience in learning/using other office systems (financial, member management, etc.)
  6. Minimum age of 21.
  7. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards and have a strong foundation in stroke mechanics.
  8. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, Lifeguard Training, YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
  9. Preferred Certifications: Lifeguard Instructor and Angelfish.
  10. Working toward completion of Y USA Team Leader Certification.
  11. Comfortable responding to emergency situations. 
Essential Functions
  1. Assists in supervision of program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  2. Assists in recruitment, hiring, training, developing schedules of diverse staff and volunteers as needed.  
  3. Assists the director in reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Runs monthly staff in-services.
  4. Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.   
  5. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  6. Creates and schedules swim classes, private swim lessons, water fitness classes, and swim team practices and meets.
  7. Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings and in-services.
  8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  9. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events, including volunteer opportunities.
  10. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely, professional manner.
  11. Assists with Program Committee meetings.
  12. Lifeguard and teach swim lessons when needed.
  13. Assists in oversight of on-site and off-site aquatics facilities (Chickami pool and CFAD Waterfront).
  14. Ensure cleanliness of pool areas daily, hosing deck, brushing down walls, cleaning staff office, putting equipment away in storage closet neatly, inspecting pool area and reporting all problems appropriately. 
Required Certifications

Lifeguarding certification.
