Job Description

Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Mission Advancement will provide leadership for the annual Community Support Campaign for the Association. Working in a team environment, the Director will help the branches implement the annual fundraising plan and Major Gift Program. As a member of the Philanthropy Team, the Director of Mission Advancement works directly with the branch leadership, and the Director of Grant Development in accomplishing fundraising goals, including coordination of fundraising special events.

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of professional experience in successful fundraising required -- in the YMCA or another not-for-profit preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Working knowledge of giving and charitable vehicles.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to create interpretive materials to enable potential donors to understand the YMCA and how they contribute to the achievement of its mission.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software programs, as well as the ability to use most office equipment is required.
  • Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks, while doing so autonomously.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
Essential Functions
  • Prepare and implement a plan for a successful Annual Giving Campaign consistent with the annual fundraising best practices and Association guidelines.
  • Maintain all aspects of the Development plan, including calendar, goal setting, organizational charts, stewardship plan, volunteer recruitment, donor cultivation/awareness tours, and key performance indicators.
  • Coach, mentor and train staff on best practices including volunteer development and training, solicitation of donors, and coordination of staff roles in branches served.
  • Oversee Major Gifts Portfolio, using the moves management system; oversee the major gifts relations plan as it relates to the assigned Branch Executives, and update weekly. 
  • Maintain a portfolio of qualified “major donor” prospects for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
  • Serve as staff liaison to Board members, advisory council, key stakeholders, campaign volunteers and donors.
  • Manage campaigns through use of Daxko software and Mobile Cause*, including pledge entry, tracking, production of essential reports, and other required software management related to the success of the Annual Giving Campaign.
  • Act as Event Coordinator for association kickoff, report meetings, celebrations, and other special events.
  • Coordinate donor recognition and thank-you efforts in conjunction with marketing and branch staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Model the YMCA core values.
  • Other duties as assigned.
