Job Description
The Associate Director of Aquatics oversees the daily operation of aquatic programs at the Fishers YMCA. This role balances frontline interaction with members and staff and administrative responsibilities, including program development, staff supervision, scheduling, safety compliance, training, and financial oversight. The position supports the YMCA's mission by delivering high-quality aquatic experiences in a safe and welcoming environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years of aquatics leadership and supervisory experience.
- Preferred: 2 years of swim lesson instruction experience with all age groups.
- Knowledge of YMCA philosophy, values, and aquatic programming.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding certifications, or ability to obtain required YMCA certifications.
- Knowledge of pool chemicals, water quality management, and OSHA guidelines.
- YMCA Certified Pool Operator training preferred or required.
- Ability to work in humid, hot aquatic environments.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.

- Supervise day-to-day aquatic department operations.
- Develop, promote, implement, and evaluate aquatic programs.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise aquatic staff.
- Provide frontline support to members, participants, and employees.
- Monitor pool safety practices and ensure compliance with YMCA standards.
- Oversee lifeguarding, swim instruction, and aquatic programming operations.
- Manage department schedules, records, and administrative functions.
- Support budget management and financial performance goals.
- Ensure proper pool maintenance and chemical safety procedures.
- Maintain required certifications and instruct certification courses as needed.
- Foster a positive, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Support YMCA mission, values, and strategic objectives.
