The Assistant Program Director supports the planning, development, and daily operation of Camp Y-Koda’s year-round and summer programs. Working closely with the Summer Camp Director, this position helps lead youth programming, outdoor education, staff and volunteer training, group facility rentals, and High Ropes & Challenge Course experiences. The Assistant Program Director also supports program marketing and fundraising, oversees the camp store and inventory, maintains first aid supplies and lost and found, and helps ensure the safety and well-being of all camp participants. This position is ideal for an organized, dependable leader who enjoys working with youth, leading programs, spending time outdoors, and contributing to a positive camp environment.
- College degree in education, recreation, or similar field of study or significant experience working in a camp setting is preferred.
- Experience working at a summer camp and knowledge of camp activities and philosophy.
- Knowledge and understanding of nature, environmental education, or a love for nature.
- Knowledge of strategies for working with children, parents, and the community.
- Exemplary behavior management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Communicate effectively with children at an age-appropriate level.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and general technology.
- Able to obtain High Ropes & Challenge Course Lead belay certification.
- Able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED/lifeguarding American Red Cross professional certifications.
Physical Requirements
This position requires active participation in camp programming and outdoor activities. Candidates must be able to:
• Perform tasks requiring exertion outdoors in all weather conditions and on difficult terrain.
• Lift, push, hold, handle, or drag equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, squat, kneel, bend, and carry children; able to sit without back support for 4 hours or more.

- Support the supervision, training, and development of summer camp staff and volunteers.
- Plan, facilitate, and teach youth programs and outdoor education activities.
- Coordinate and facilitate group experiences at the High Ropes and Challenge Course.
- Manage camp group facility rentals and related scheduling.
- Promote Camp Y-Koda programs and participate in fundraising activities.
- Monitor the safety and well-being of campers, staff, volunteers, and program participants.
- Oversee the camp store, including inventory, budgeting, and ordering.
- Maintain first aid equipment and supplies and assist with injury management.
- Maintain lost and found items and other camp resources throughout the year.
- Communicate effectively with children, families, staff, volunteers, and community groups.
- Participate in outdoor camp activities and perform physical tasks necessary to support camp programming.
