The Whatcom Family Y is entering an exciting period of growth—including the beginning stages of developing a new YMCA facility that will expand our ability to serve the Whatcom County community for generations to come. We’re looking for a Fund Development Senior Director who will play an important role in building the philanthropic support needed to bring our mission and future vision to life.
Working closely with the Association Director of Advancement & Impact, CEO, Board members, volunteers, and Y leaders, you’ll help lead fundraising efforts across major gifts, annual giving, corporate partnerships, grants, capital initiatives, and donor stewardship.
This is an opportunity for an experienced development professional to strengthen an established culture of giving while helping build the relationships and philanthropic momentum behind one of the Y’s most significant periods of growth.

1. Strategic Fund Development Leadership: In collaboration with the Director of Advancement and Impact, develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies that support annual campaign goals, major gifts, capital initiatives, planned giving, donor stewardship, and organizational priorities. Align development efforts with the Y's strategic plan and community impact goals.
2. Major Gifts Program: In collaboration with the Director of Advancement and Impact, manage a portfolio of major donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donors and prospective donors. implement individualized engagement strategies, maintain a robust donor portfolio, and build long-term philanthropic relationships that result in transformational support
3. Annual Campaign Strategy & Execution: Provide leadership for the Y's Annual Campaign, including annual campaign strategy, event planning, campaigner training, donor engagement, and performance monitoring and reporting. Partner with staff and volunteers to achieve annual fundraising goals.
4. Corporate Giving & Sponsorships: Develop and manage corporate giving and sponsorship strategies that build mutually beneficial relationships with local and regional businesses. Identify and cultivate corporate prospects, create sponsorship opportunities and proposals, secure financial and in-kind support, coordinate recognition and fulfillment, and steward partners to grow long-term investment in the Y's mission and community impact.
5. Capital Campaign Support: Support the Director of Advancement and Impact in planning and execution of capital campaigns and major funding initiatives. Coordinate donor engagement stewardship activities, campaign communications, prospect management, volunteer support, to achieve campaign objectives.
6. Grant Management & Oversight: Working with the Grants and Partnership Director, oversee the Y's grant portfolio and grant development process. Ensure compelling and accurate proposals and timely compliance, reporting, and renewal activities.
7. Donor Stewardship & Relationship Management: Implement donor stewardship systems that strengthen relationships and increase donor giving and retention. Ensure timely acknowledgment, recognition, reporting, and communication with donors at all levels.
8. Volunteer & Board Engagement: Partner with Board members, campaign volunteers, and community leaders to identify prospects, cultivate relationships, and expand philanthropic support. Provide training, resources, and support to maximize volunteer fundraising effectiveness.
9. Data and Records Management: Serve as the primary administrator of the Y’s donor CRM, maintaining accurate donor records, prospect tracking, gift processing, reporting, and fundraising analytics. Ensure data integrity, produce timely reports and dashboards, provide actionable insights to monitor performance, identify opportunities, and support informed decision-making.
10. Collaboration & Organizational Leadership: Work collaboratively with Y leaders across all departments to identify funding priorities, align fundraising strategies, and support organizational goals. Foster a culture of philanthropy throughout the Association by helping staff and volunteers understand their role in donor engagement and stewardship.
11. Child Safety: Follow organization policies and procedures regarding protecting youth from abuse, including screening and selection, training and supervision, and responding to allegations. Communicate to staff and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect youth from abuse.
12. Association Leadership: Serve as a visible leader and ambassador for the Y by participating in association-wide initiatives, campaigns, events, and strategic planning efforts that advance the Y's mission and goals.
