Job Description

The Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of high quality, member-focused aquatics programs, as well as the day-to-day management of the pool and aquatics staff.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of supervisory experience preferred
  • Certified to instruct others in CPR, AED/O2, First Aid, lifeguarding, learn-to-swim, and water exercise or ability to gain certifications
  • Proven ability to stimulate program growth through strong community relations and innovative programming with emphasis on creating positive experiences for all members
  • Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Must display high degree of professionalism and customer service and exemplify YMCA values
  • Ability to flex schedule to periodically monitor all aspects of aquatics programming 
Essential Functions
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  • Conducts lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  • Creates and schedules swim classes and water fitness classes.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  • Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to 
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Participates in Program Management Team meetings.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation 
    in programs.
  • Agrees to abide by and uphold the YMCA Code of Conduct and child protection policies.
  • Serves as member of branch leadership team, including working Manager on Duty shifts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Certifications
  • CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, O2 certification. 
  • Current Red Cross Lifeguarding or obtain Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • New Employee Orientation required within first week of hire.
