POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Operations, the District Executive Director manages the overall operations of multiple Family Centers, including staff and programs. The District Executive Director supervises, develops and implements a full range of services including Membership, Wellness, Aquatics, Sports and Family Programs, Facilities Management, Scholarship and Board Development.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; degree in business, management, operations, sport management, or a related field preferred. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in YMCA operations, including financial management, membership growth and retention, program management, fundraising, facility operations, and community engagement.
  • Strong budget and financial management acumen; experience building and forecasting budgets.
  • Experience working with nonprofit Boards of Directors and volunteer leadership required.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, relationship-building, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop high-performing teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other business technology applications.
Essential Functions

LEAD MULTIPLE FAMILY CENTERS

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for assigned Family Centers, ensuring alignment with the YMCA of Central Florida's mission, strategic priorities, and operational standards.
  • Partner with Executive Directors, Associate Executive Directors, Operations Directors, and department leaders to drive operational excellence, leadership consistency, and achievement of key performance indicators across assigned Family Centers.

FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP

  • Oversee the financial performance of assigned Family Centers by building, managing and forecasting operating budgets, monitoring financial results, identifying opportunities for growth, and ensuring responsible stewardship of organizational resources.

TALENT LEADERSHIP

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing leadership teams. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, engagement, succession planning and continuous professional development while supporting leadership succession planning.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance management, and leadership development for direct reports and center leadership to strengthen organizational effectiveness and talent readiness.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

  • Drive consistent execution of operational standards, policies, and best practices across assigned Family Centers to ensure high-quality member experiences and operational efficiency.
  • Partner with Association support departments to implement organizational initiatives, improve operational processes, leverage technology, and promote continuous improvement.

MEMBERSHIP & PROGRAM GROWTH

  • Lead strategies that strengthen membership growth, member retention, program participation, and overall member engagement across assigned Family Centers.
  • Ensure programs, services, and schedules reflect community needs while maintaining consistent quality, operational excellence, and alignment with YMCA standards.

RISK MANAGEMENT & FACILITY OPERATIONS

  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and accountability by partnering with center leadership to proactively identify and address operational, safety, and risk management priorities while maintaining YMCA standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure assigned Family Centers maintain safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained facilities that support exceptional member experiences.
  • Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor and follow the Association’s employee and member injury reporting procedures.  

COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP

  • Partner with center leadership to strengthen community relationships, philanthropic efforts, volunteer and donor engagement, and the Annual Campaign while supporting the long-term sustainability and impact of assigned Family Centers.
  • Collaborate with Association Development team to develop fundraising strategies to achieve Centers’ annual philanthropy goals.
  • Develop strong and engaged Center Advisory boards that actively participate in fundraising efforts and advocate for the Y in the community.

ASSOCIATION LEADERSHIP

  • Partner with the Vice President of Operations to implement Association-wide initiatives, support organizational priorities, and promote consistency, collaboration, and leadership continuity across assigned Family Centers.
  • Serve as an active member of the Association leadership team, contributing to organizational planning, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic decision-making.

  • Champion and model the YMCA of Central Florida's mission, values, and culture while creating an inclusive, high-performing environment for staff, volunteers, members, and the communities served.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
