Job Description
Under the direction of the Youth Development Director, the Teen Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating engaging, safe, and inclusive programs for teens ages 12–17. This role supports the YMCA's mission by promoting youth development, leadership, academic success, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement. The Teen Coordinator serves as a positive role model, mentor, and advocate for teens while building strong relationships with families, schools, and community partners.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- A minimum of one year working with teens (ages 12-17).
- A minimum of six months related program development and/or program management experience.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills to work cohesively with parents, participants and staff.
- Demonstrated computer skills in a Google Workspace
- CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
- American Red Cross
- American Heart Association
- American Safety & Health Institute
Essential Functions
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate engaging, safe, and inclusive teen programs for youth ages 12-17.
- Support youth leadership development by mentoring teens, encouraging youth voice, and promoting teamwork, responsibility, and confidence.
- Serve as the Lead Advisor for the YMCA's Model United Nations and Youth & Government programs, including weekly meetings, curriculum facilitation, and preparation for conferences, simulations, and civic engagement events.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by following YMCA policies, maintaining appropriate supervision ratios, and implementing positive behavior management strategies.
- Host surveys to gauge teen, parent, and community interest. Determine needs of the community to make program decisions.
- Plan, develop and implement relevant programs and workshops to engage teen participation.
- Build strong relationships with teens, parents/guardians, school staff, and community partners.
- Communicate program updates and participant progress to families in a timely and professional manner.
- Plan and lead Teen Camps for the Santa Monica Family YMCA during Spring/Summer and Mini-Day Camps.
- Serve as admin liaison for Camp Big Bear (Summer Camp). Assist with administrative duties such as registration questions, managing questions, setting up rooms for training/parent meetings and assisting with Check-in and Check-out Days.
- Develop, plan and implement a teen volunteer program to promote community engagement.
- Assist with program promotion, outreach, and participant recruitment. Work with Marketing to promote programs in a timely manner in order to meet program enrollment goals.
- Maintain accurate attendance records, incident reports, and required program documentation.
- Collaborate with YMCA staff, volunteers, interns, and community partners to support high-quality programming.
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, conferences, and YMCA events as required.
- Model and uphold the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility at all times.
- Ensure that teen programming attains the highest standards as established by the Santa Monica Family YMCA.
- Assist in association-wide initiatives such as Healthy Kids Day, Spooktacular, Winter Wonderland and others.
- Other duties as assigned.
