Job Description

This position supervises and coordinates the activities of assigned custodial and grounds keeping personnel.  The Director of Custodial Services & Grounds will direct the custodial and grounds operations of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh facilities and properties including related budgets. This position works closely, and in a hands-on capacity, with on-site property directors and provides guidance and support for facility issues at each location.  This position provides management support across all work groups within the organization, has direct supervisory responsibility for multiple work groups and is responsible for overall service delivery, leadership and management of staff, and financial performance of assigned work groups.

This position requires travel to all of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh locations.

Qualifications
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Five or more years of experience in custodial and grounds services management or closely related field.
  • Skills in supervision, budget management and project management.
  • Ability and current license to drive with record that meets YMCA standards.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations outside of normal work hours.
Essential Functions
  1. Provides overall coordination and oversight of multiple facilities’ custodial and grounds in conjunction with on-site property directors.
  2. Develop and implement cleaning schedules and maintenance plans.
  3. Supervise custodial staff, including hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  4. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
  5. Ensure outdoor spaces are clean, safe, and aesthetically maintained including landscaping, lawn care, and tree maintenance.
  6. Oversee irrigation systems, snow removal, and seasonal maintenance.
  7. Manage pest control and fertilization programs.
  8. Coordinate with contractors for large-scale landscaping projects.
  9. Develop and manage budgets for custodial and groundskeeping operations.
  10. Ensure cost-effective purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  11. Maintain records for compliance audits and inspections.
  12. Work with vendors for contracts related to cleaning services, landscaping, and equipment maintenance.
  13. Ensure that assigned machinery, supplies and other equipment is stocked, maintained and operated in accordance with the policies and procedures of the YMCA.
  14. Develops a good understanding of each site’s facilities and its unique challenges to provide guidance, scheduling and support to site staff.
  15. Maintains regular contact with leadership to ensure optimal communication of activities, alignment of priorities and effectiveness of services.
  16. Oversee routine inspections of scheduled work assignments across all supervisory areas to ensure effective performance of all cleaning and related services.
