Crisis in the Middle East

Crisis in the Middle East

Intro Copy

For decades, the YMCA of the USA's World Service Campaign, local U.S. YMCAs, and the global YMCA Movement have maintained deep partnerships with YMCAs across the Middle East—working together to advance peace, wellbeing, and opportunity amid conflict, displacement, and humanitarian need.

Today, YMCA leaders remain in close contact with our colleagues at the Jerusalem International YMCA, the East Jerusalem YMCA, and the Lebanon YMCA, as they courageously provide humanitarian services to rapidly changing community needs.

  • Jerusalem International YMCA (JIY) is caring for displaced international visitors and other communities. The YMCA programs include early childhood education, youth programs, sports, and humanitarian partnerships.  JIY provides safe spaces rooted in mutual respect and hope. JIY, founded in 1878, serves as a historic center for dignity, understanding, and peaceful interaction among Jerusalem’s many communities.
  • Lebanon YMCA is delivering lifesaving medical aid, food assistance, and sanitary supplies to displaced families and communities.  The YMCA continues to organize mental health support, vocational training, and youth entrepreneurship programs. In partnership with organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the YMCA responds to urgent needs while investing in long‑term economic empowerment.
  • East Jerusalem YMCA is providing humanitarian support and mental health services to impacted youth, families and communities.  The YMCA continues to provide health and wellness, vocational training, women’s leadership programs and support for people with disabilities throughout the communities it serves.
