Hayashi-Ha Family Karate
Martial Arts Class
The YMCA offers a variety of martial arts classes for different ages and skill levels. These classes are a great way to learn self-discipline, self-esteem, and respect.
On or before 12/22/2018
Hayashi-ha Karate is traditional Japanese karate-do classes taught by certified members of Japan Hayashi-ha Shito-ryukai with over 20 years of experience. Perfect for all all ages, Hayashi-ha teaches fighting basics such as punches, kicks and blocks, Kata (forms), Kumite (sparring), stretching, strength conditioning, self-defense techniques, as well as games and other activities.
There are ten ranks from white to black belt, and tests are held every three months, with students only testing when sufficiently prepared. Participants are welcome (but not required) to attend many local tournaments, which we will regularly announce, as well as demonstrations, group outings and parties.
Classes are divided into two groups:
- Beginner/Novice Class for white through purple belts of all ages. (T/Th: 6-7pm and Sat: 3-4pm)
- Intermediate/Advanced Class for green through black of all ages as well. (T/Th: 7-8pm and Sat: 4-5pm)
All new students are required to attend the beginner/novice class until they meet the requirements of the instructor to attend the intermediate/advanced class.
A plain white Karate gi, the formal Japanese name for the traditional uniform used for Karate, with no patches, logos and flares, and a white belt is required within the first couple weeks of starting classes. Students 6 years old and up should also have fist guards. Uniform and equipment can be purchased from the instructor or purchased elsewhere as long as they meet standards set by instructor.
