Job Description
The Executive Director has primary responsibility for the leadership and administration of the budget, management plan, programs and services of Camp Watchaug which has been operated by the Ocean Community YMCA since 1948 but formerly became a branch in 2024. Duties include Annual Support Campaign, strategic planning, program development, staff development, membership and marketing, staff supervision, fiscal management and risk management and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Successful YMCA or equivalent leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of child development, ACA standards, and safety protocols.
- Proven ability to manage complex programs, fiscal operations, and multi-layered teams.
- Familiarity with local community needs and resources preferred but not required.
Essential Functions
1. Operational Leadership & Facility Management
- Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of summer camp operations including facilities, staff, campers, and program quality.
- Oversee the entire facility and grounds, ensuring safe, clean, and functional environments.
- Ensure the branch is operated in alignment with YMCA policies and Board expectations.
2. Strategic Planning & Organizational Development
- Lead and implement strategic plans to drive camp growth, quality, and community relevance.
- Manage and develop relationships with the Camp Watchaug Board of Managers and Committees.
- Provide leadership to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with YMCA mission and strategic priorities.
3. Program Oversight & Community Impact
- Lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of summer and seasonal programs.
- Join community networks and collaborate with partners to expand program reach and address community needs.
- Ensure compliance with ACA standards and state program regulations.
4. Financial Oversight & Development
- Create and manage the branch’s operational budget.
- Lead the Annual Support Campaign and work in partnership with the CEO and Development Director on capital and fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor fiscal operations to ensure sustainability and compliance.
5. Talent & Staff Development
- Hire, onboard, supervise, evaluate, develop, and coach full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff and volunteers.
- Develop high-performing teams with a focus on continuous staff development and performance improvement.
- Recruit and retain a strong Board of Managers that reflects the community and supports the camp’s mission.
6. Risk Management & Compliance
- Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure response readiness for emergencies or behavioral concerns.
- Maintain all required certifications (CPR/AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen).
- Follow abuse risk management policies and protocols including following screening requirements and utilizing screening tools, providing ongoing supervision, and training related to abuse risk, provide regular feedback to employees and volunteers regarding boundaries with consumers and requiring employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
- Follow security policy regarding the handling of sensitive information, particularly related to payments and membership data.
