Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Health & Wellness Director leads health & wellness programming for the branch, ensuring our cause and culture is instilled in our strategy and staff development.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent 

2. At least 1 year supervisory experience in customer service and/or fitness training or instruction 

3. Demonstrated success leading member-focused or equivalent team 

4. Demonstrated leadership, dependability & flexibility in work hours 

5. Complete within 30 days of hire: YMCA cause & culture training; branch-specific training; BLS CPR; First Aid; Emergency Oxygen Administration (provided by YMCA) 

6. Complete within 90 days of hire & maintained consistently: YMCA program-specific certifications and current nationally recognized Group Exercise and/or Personal Training Certification 

7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community and successful clearance of background check 

8. Follow youth boundaries policies and abuse risk management training. 

9. Report suspicious behavior, policy violations, and adhere to mandated abuse reporting and responsibilities. 

10. Complete all required abuse prevention training prior to first shift. 

11. Screen, train, and enforce abuse prevention policies for staff. 

12. Promote a reporting culture, address violations, and maintain confidentiality. 

13. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting and communicate zero tolerance to all staff. 

Essential Functions

1. Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and YMCA objectives. 

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed.  Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 

3. Develops, models and integrates systems and practices that encourage and sustain positive relationships and retention of members/participants. 

4. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. 

5. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives. 

6. Manages payroll related transactions and monitor for accuracy and completeness.  

7. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete. Maintains/keeps current personal certification requirements. 

8. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, organizes and schedules program registrations.  

9. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. 

10. Works with staff teams to continually improve member/participant engagement and experience. 

11. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates program quality and enrollment. 

12. Actively participates in branch, department and association staff meetings and/or related trainings.  

13. Performs other duties as assigned.
