Spirit of Community Support Your Local YMCA

A Campaign to Complete the T. Claude and Gladys B. Ryan Family YMCA!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The Peninsula Family YMCA has been serving the Ocean Beach, Point Loma and Midway communities for almost 50 years, initially in schools, churches and parks. Our structure was built in 1977 to provide a pool and community center in the current location. Additions were completed in 2005 and 2011, constructing new facilities to meet current and future service needs. We  continue to partner with neighborhood churches and local schools to provide programs out in the community. Over 8,000 community residents are served by our local Y in memberships or programs each year.

Our Y focuses on building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. The area we live and work constitutes a diverse range of culture and socioeconomic levels, and the YMCA brings people together. While our community is a wonderful place to be, we face certain health, education and lifestyle issues. Our current facilities, built for previous generations and different purposes, are in urgent need for updates and expansion so that we can continue to make an impact for years to come.

Help us build a new Peninsula Family YMCA that better serves our local community.

WHY IT'S NEEDED

Youth Development

YMCA youth programs nurture children’s development by providing a safe place to learn foundational skills, develop healthy relationships, and build self-reliance.

  • More children will experience learning activities and socialization in our expanded Child Discovery Center, while giving parents an opportunity to focus on their own health and wellness.
  • Youth of all ages will enjoy a variety of enrichment programs such as art, dance and science in our community program and meeting space

Healthy Living

Membership at the Y means far more than joining a gym-it’s a movement to improve lives so all people may reach their potential.

  • 600 more households will be engaged in our Y, with 15-25% growth in membership within 3 years of opening the new facility.
  • Members will have increased privacy and options for families with updated locker rooms and new family changing areas.
  • Teens, adults, and seniors can find their perfect workout with space for additional cardio equipment and group exercise classes.

Social Responsibility

At the Y, we have a commitment to serving those who need our services most.

  • Social bonds, which benefit health and longevity, will be forged in our new social gathering spaces.
  • Community groups and organizations will have a space to meet or hold social events in our meeting rooms and rooftop deck.
  • More adults, youth, families and seniors will have access to our Y than ever before with an increase in financial assistance.
