Job Description

The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, established in 1885, consists of 16 branches and 2 destination camps and employs over 1500 staff - all dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, families and communities.

We are currently seeking 2 energetic, organized individuals to act as Regional Director of Group Exercise. This position is responsible for the growth and success of group fitness programs as a whole while responsible for a group of branches within the Association. The people in this role will oversee and execute scheduling, format selection, quality, and budgeting, ensuring the right class, format, and instructor are appointed for each class and schedule for multiple branch locations. This position reports directly to the Association Director of Group Exercise.

Candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to deliver feedback in a constructive manner, must be able to analyze data, have excellent presentation skills, use Excel, MINDBODY, other office applications, must show an ability to multitask, strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to collaborate with different levels of leadership, extensive knowledge of group exercise and the fitness industry, must have ability to teach several group exercise formats, must know how several certification classes are taught, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, must be able to travel across the DFW metropolex 80% of the time, must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and stand for extended periods of time


Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications

  • 2 years experience in group exercise leadership preferred
  • Current group exercise instructor
  • Ability to implement and uphold group exercise policies
  • Experience in leading and delivering multiple project initiatives in group exercise
  • Must have had previous management experience in overseeing group exercise in multiple locations
  • Current CPR is required
  • Knowledge of programming for Active Older Adults


Minimum Educational Level/Certifications

  • Multiple Group X instruction certifications
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Specialized group exercise format certification 
Essential Functions

Group Exercise Instructor Management and Communication

  • Group Exercise Instructors in their region report to the Regional Director
  • Educates and provides continued support to the Association Director, Executive Directors, and Vice Presidents (VPs) of Operations
  • Recruit, hire and train instructors
  • Organizes and delivers continuing education and development for instructors
  • Communicates effectively to all levels of staff and leadership
  • Works with Executive Directors and VP of Operations to ensure scheduling and programming are effective
  • Receives feedback from branch leadership team and Association Director
  • Perform evaluations for group exercise instructor
  • Organizes and delivers instructor continuing education
  • Communicates effectively with instructors
  • Lead and demonstrate proper technique within formats
  • Train staff on proper equipment and audio visual equipment usage
  • Ensures instructors are keeping group exercise rooms organized, clean, and safe, reporting issues in our system and notifying branch leadership 

Group Exercise Department Development 

  • Ensures group exercise schedules for their Region are created, efficient, and with quality
  • Collaborate, create, and execute group exercise department initiatives
  • Resolve group exercise concerns from members and/or instructors
  • Leverages the latest technology to ensure an enhanced/seamless member experience
  • Evaluates formats, vendors, licensing for programs with Association Director
  • Creates consistency in scheduling for our Association with their Region
  • Upholds group exercises policies and standards, executing them for our Association
  • Manages labor budgeting for their Region
  • Ensures growth of group exercise attendance and continues to grow their branches participation/penetration
  • Responsible for group exercise equipment and sound quality
  • Responsible for quality group exercise inventory
  • Recognizes trends, gaps, issues in the community with solution-driven execution
  • Applies group exercise strategies to positively affect member retention
  • Ensures implementation of new formats, policies, and communication are completed successfully
  • Main point of contact for quality control of the group exercise department for branches assigned
  • Design and implement successful programming for their Region
  • Evaluates group exercise programming and its success, making changes as needed
  • Assists in all group exercise events and special programming for branches
