Job Description

The YMCA of Highland Lakes is located north of historic Austin, Texas in the charming Central Texas community of Burnet, Texas.

The YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond has an annual budget of $2million and over 1,500 membership units.  The facility has 60,000 square feet of programmed space, a Jr. Olympic indoor pool, therapy pool, splash area, cardio theatre, new multi-generational center, two group exercise rooms and 5 acres of sports fields. The YMCA of the Highland Lakes at Galloway Hammond has some exciting opportunities that this position will play a key part of including: an aggressive growth campaign; a plan to increase member involvement and launch new programs, and a need to reach out to underserved communities. 

Position Summary:

This position provides an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and cause-driven professional to work closely with the Board of Directors and key community stakeholders. This Y has a strong, committed group of volunteers that are active in the management of the branch. Success of this position will require a cultural “fit” as well as the ability to effectively lead staff and volunteers. The Branch Executive Director will represent and promote the YMCA as a leader in our community and must be able to maintain positive, collaborative relationships with local organizations, businesses and government entities. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to, overseeing the total operation of the branch, including membership, marketing, program development, staff and volunteer development, facility management and maintenance, financial development, fundraising, community relations and collaborations with community agencies. The branch executive will develop, manage and monitor the branch operating budgets and ensure budget commitments are met or exceeded through sound financial stewardship of YMCA resources. The Branch Executive Director is responsible for overall growth in membership and implementing innovative programs in aquatics, health and fitness, teens, youth and adult sports, childcare/summer camp, seniors, and community outreach.

  • At least five years’ progressive experience in a YMCA, and preferably, working as a Branch Executive of a 1500 unit or greater Y.
  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university.  Additional years of related experience may replace the college degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Proven ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders, and give dynamic leadership and direction to board, committees, volunteers, staff and community.
  • Professional demeanor and proven supervisory skills in hiring, training, evaluating, and motivating staff and volunteers, as well as developing an effective staff team.
  • Experience in preparing and managing a budget in excess of $2M annually.
  • Experience in developing a culture within staff and Board for sound fiscal responsibility.
  • Excellent employee/human relations skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on experience and willingness to work hands-on when and where needed.
  • Experience in developing new programs and in reviewing and enhancing existing programs.
  • At least five years’ operational experience (planning, program development, fiscal management, volunteer development, fundraising and financial development).
  • Experience in fund-raising, including: annual and capital campaigns, grant writing, planned giving, and the development of other creative revenue streams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations as well as ability to recruit top community leaders.
  • Reputation for safety and high-quality maintenance of facility.
  • YMCA Organizational Leader (Senior Director) or Multi-Team/Branch Leader Certification (Professional Director) with the YMCA of the USA (Note: Candidates not currently certified may have up to three years to obtain it via the Y-USA Training and Leadership Development criterion.
  • Candidate must have personal and insured vehicle, acceptable driving record, and a valid Texas Driver license (or be able to attain one) or have other reliable transportation as travel within the Round Rock/Austin area is frequently required.
  • Candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, sex offender and criminal history background check.

Salary: $75,000-$85,000 annually
