Aquatics Director

The Cecil County Family YMCA is looking for the ideal candidate to strengthen our Aquatic's program. 
Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director the Program Director is responsible for the leadership of the aquatics departments, their respective programs and services, and cultivation of relationships between YMCA members and staff team.  Member engagement and staff development are key focus areas for these positions with an emphasis on pool and aquatic facility management.  Effective candidates will have backgrounds in building relationships, successful staff supervision, problem solving skills, program management and the ability to work with diverse populations. 

 Ideal candidate will have experience in lifeguarding and an emphasis on lifeguard supervision and training, risk management training, swim instruction and/or program development.  This role will be responsible for ensuring the safe and proper staffing of all YMCA lifeguards for our community, the hiring, training and development of these individuals, and the detailed monitoring of safe practices to ensure our pools are safe and secure.

Qualifications

1.     Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

2.     Must be able to access data (e.g., Daxko), translate the meaning and provide actionable next steps based on the numbers; actions should be fact-based.

3.     Certification or willingness to be trained in following

a.     Maryland Certified Pool Operator

b.     YMCA Swim Lesson V6 Trainer Level

c.      YMCA Lifeguard Trainer Level

d.     CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Trainer Level

4.     Must be a problem solver and have a proven track record of complaint resolution.

5.     Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and credibility quickly.

6.     Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to work in highly flexible, rapidly changing and ambiguous work environment.

7.     Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

8.     Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Essential Functions

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  1. Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and manage a high-performing staff focused on providing exceptional service and work well as a team.
  2. Develop strategies to provide support and motivation for staff satisfaction and retention. 
  3. Hold regular in services to ensure proper training of all staff and evaluate staff performance each month based upon quick checks.
  4. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  5. Maintain staff retention through positive reinforcement and support.
  6. Ensure adequate lifeguard coverage of all pools during operating hours.
  7. Conduct lifeguard, swim lesson instructor and safety certification trainings for both aquatics and Rockwall rick management. 
  8. Responsible for safety drills/audits, monthly documented staff meetings/development and trainings.
  9. Ensures staff certification records are current and fulfill all in-service standards.
  10. Supervision of program volunteers with continued investment and development.  Proper tracking of all volunteer hours on a quarterly basis. 

PROGRAM OPERATIONS

  1.  Effectively communicate the mission, vision and values of the YMCA of the Chesapeake.
  2. Ensure all programs comply with YMCA standards and methods of operation.
  3. Integrate member-service and engagement strategies into all programs to ensure positive member recruitment and retention.
  4. Build and expand the program enrollment and participation in swim lessons. 
  5. Supervision of YMCA Swim Team and respective coaches, coordination of all team registration, meet entry, website management and subsequent supply orders. 
  6. Coordinate the Water Safety and/or Learn to Swim programming in conjunction with other YMCA of the Chesapeake locations including curriculum development and program implementation.
  7. Program partnership with community nonprofits and local school systems to ensure all youth are served through in water access programming. 
  8. Keep accurate records of attendance, retention, member and non-member participation.
  9. Ensure progress reports are distributed consistently to program participants.
  10. Monitor and evaluate delivery and effectiveness of programs and staff for the highest possible level of quality.
  11. Be visible to staff and members.
  12. Respond to all member and community inquiries and concerns within 48 hours.
  13. Communicate program information, changes and needs in a timely manner to supervisor and branch staff.
  14. Manager on Duty as scheduled.

FISCAL MANAGEMENT

  1. Develop, monitor and meet or exceed budget targets.
  2. Produce effective and efficient staff schedules within set payroll budget parameters.

STRONG COMMUNITY CAMPAIGN | FINANCIAL DEVELOPMENT

  1.  Provide leadership for assigned aspects of Annual Campaign, special events and other fund development to ensure fundraising goals are met.

FACILITIES DEVELOPMENT

  1. Maintain complete familiarity with all risk management procedures and policies.
  1. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state and local health and safety regulations.
  2. Organize, plan and schedule pools for instructional and recreational activities.
  3. Maintain program area and equipment in an orderly, clean and safe condition. Report any irregularities to maintenance personnel.
  4. Keep an up-to-date inventory on all equipment, materials and supplies.
  5. Serve as a member of the aquatic management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of branch operations.
  6. Communicate information promptly to all branch leadership and departmental staff.
  7. Attend applicable training and conferences to further professional development.

 All other duties as assigned.
