Job Description

Directly supervises staff, as assigned.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with YMCA's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five years professional experience in financial development or a closely related field; experience in a nonprofit environment preferred.

  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills with previous experience in corporate communications and brand content development.

  • Ability to speak publicly, represent the YMCA in a professional and appealing manner, and deliver exemplary customer service to all prospective and current donors, volunteers, staff, corporate partners, and community members.

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, individual gift solicitation, and project management.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is expected from our staff.

  • Previous experience in volunteer and donor database management, event planning, marketing and communication, or corporate sponsorship or related experience preferred.

  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, goal-oriented environment; able to embrace change, switch directions, and excel in a dynamic work environment.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management, and social media tools

  • Able to travel locally on a consistent basis. Flexible schedule including some evenings or weekends and ability to travel locally on a consistent basis.

Essential Functions
  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

  2. Directs fundraising activities for the association’s programs and greatest needs, including planning, execution, and evaluation to ensure a sustaining, year-round approach to financial development.

    1. Plans comprehensive campaigns, events, and support systems to achieve annual contributed revenue goals.

    2. Incorporates long-term strategies for capital and endowment growth into daily operations.

    3. Supports special resource development projects as needed and assigned by the Chief Advancement & Strategy Officer.

  3. Proactively identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift prospects while developing processes for association leadership to engage in the same. Supports CEO, CASO, and Executive Directors in managing donor pipelines.

  4. Prepares and coordinates grant proposals to government sources and private foundations, including discovery of new opportunities, managing relationships with funder contacts, and fulfillment of reporting obligations with support from program leadership.

  5. Serves as a coach and mentor for all staff and volunteers by educating, training, motivating, and providing feedback on fundraising best practices like community-centric fundraising, portfolio management, and community engagement. Educates, motivates and provides feedback to individuals related to best practices in the fundraising and development process.

  6. Builds and maintains a volunteer database to ensure volunteer positions are creating pathways from volunteerism. Develops strategies to increase volunteer involvement at all levels of financial development.

  7. Participates in the association’s Senior Leadership Team and works with colleagues to sustainably serve the community. Continually assesses community and organization needs to best align resource development strategies with high-priority initiatives.

  8. Creates and implements effective communication strategies with compelling messages that inspire others to accomplish the mission and cause with maximum impact. Develops communication plans to ensure members, participants, and the community understand the case for support.

  9. Leads and grows the Development Team under the guidance of the Chief Advancement & Strategy Officer to ensure the department’s objectives are met and the YMCA becomes a charity of choice within the central Ohio community.

    1. Manages expense budgets for the team’s operations while advising, monitoring, and addressing variances in contributed revenue expectations.

    2. Serves as supervisor to Development Team members, empowering their success and coordinating efforts to realize the team’s potential.

    3. Collaborates with fellow Advancement Team members to establish and sustain excellence in community engagement and organizational development.
