Job Description

Creates a strong culture of “leading and coaching for excellence” through the demonstration of collaboration, mission above self and a growth mindset as the person responsible for the successful operation and efficiency of the Association's membership, youth development, housing and shelter programs with a strategic focus on growth, service, fundraising and community engagement.  Serves as a collaborative member of the President/CEO’s Executive Team, embodying our values and participating in the development of strategic frameworks, project plans and innovative approaches to service delivery.

  1.  Bachelor's degree in human services, business, social services or equivalent; Master’s
  2. degree preferred.

  3. Ten or more years of professional experience in the YMCA or another nonprofit preferred.

  4. Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property management and sound financial practices.

  5. Understanding of the nature and purpose of the YMCA and the respective roles of volunteers and staff.

  6. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism is expected from our staff.

Essential Functions
  1. Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions. 
  2. Supervises senior-level executives to assure sound operations and financial performance. Provides leadership and direction to YMCA team members through coaching and by providing overall direction to the YMCA various boards and volunteers. 

  3. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions with staff, volunteers, members, and the community.

  4. Monitors monthly financial reports to assure that revenue targets are met and expenses
    are controlled.

  5. Ensures the operational growth of the YMCA through member/participant recruitment and retention, program expansion, pricing strategies, new site development, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions.

  6. Collaborates directly with the YMCA Executive team to ensure financial advancement goals are implemented and exceeded.

  7. Identifies potential areas for cooperative programming across business lines to accomplish YMCA goals, and works with staff groups to develop and implement programs. Fosters a climate of innovation to develop dynamic and impactful programs while leading staff in the planning, development and implementation of new program initiatives and activities.

  9. Provides staff leadership to assigned committees of the Board of Directors.

  10. Implements and oversees a program evaluation system to guarantee faithfulness to the Y’s cause and a high quality commitment to YMCA standards.
